Tennessee Woman To Face Charges After Child Drowned To Death While She Went On A Smoke Break

A Tennessee Woman now faces first-degree murder charges in addition to child abuse after her son drowned in a bathtub while she went out for smoking.

Lindsee Louise Leonardo, 32 said she left Aiden Xavier Leonardo, 11 months, and her 23-month-old sister in four to six inches of water on Wednesday, while “giving me time” outside the suburb of Knox County.

An arrest warrant says: “(Leonardo) said she stayed outside for about 10 minutes and heard two songs on her phone.” “The defendant stated that when she came back in and went to the bathroom to look for the 23-month-old boy and turned the water into a bathtub.”

The boy was not breathing on his back, she said, while the kid was standing in the bathtub.

The Knoxville News-Sentinel reported that Leonardo called 911 and dispatchers instructed him about CPR. When the emergency personnel arrived, they took the boy to the Tennova Turkey Creek Medical Center, and he stopped a heartbeat along the way. He was transferred to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, where he died.

Initially, Leonardo was charged with child abuse, neglect, and anguish for vandalism and was arrested on a $ 100,000 bond. Along with the first-degree murder charge, a $ 250,000 bonus was added.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office did not explain the additional charge.
