Police Officer Accused Of Fondling Dead Woman’s Body

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) confirmed on Tuesday that a police Officer is under investigation for allegedly fondling a dead woman’s breasts.

Spokesman of LAPD said that no additional detail is being released, but stated that an administrative investigation has been started. The spokesman said that the officer has been kept on paid leave and he does not have any police power during the investigation.

According to sources, the Veteran Los Angeles cop was assigned to downtown’s Central Division in which he was caught in his own body-cam footage fondling the dead woman. His supervisors have reviewed the video.

Sources stated that the alleged incident took place when the LAPD officer and his partner responded to a call about a possible dead woman in a residential unit.

On the scene, once the two officers learned that the woman was dead, one officer returned to the patrol car to take something, according to sources. During that time, the accused officer turned off his body camera and allegedly fondled the dead woman.

Sources stated that even after the officer deactivated his camera, the incident was captured on the video because of a 2-minute buffer on the device.

According to sources, LAPD Assistant Chief Robert Arcos called the video “very disturbing.”

Los Angeles Police Protective League Board of Directors said in a statement that “If this accusation is real, then the conduct exhibited by this officer is not only wrong, but very disturbing, and does not align with the values we, as police officers, hold dear and these values include respect and reverence for the dead. This conduct has no spot in law enforcement.”

The Los Angeles Police Protective League represents 10,000 officers of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The LAPD chief and the union reached an agreement last month to inspect body camera footage that does not involve arrests or the use of force in order to make sure that the officers are following the guidelines.

The reviews are also being carried out so that supervisors can decide if additional training is required.

Someone familiar with the agreement to randomly audit the body-cam video said that “Both parties agreed that if there was serious misconduct observed that the suitable steps would be taken, and that is clearly what happened here.” The person, who did not want to be named, said that supervisors found the act during a random inspection of video records.

Earlier to the agreement, supervisors could examine recordings mostly on a complaint reason, and discipline officers for misbehavior found in videos.

The work history of the accused officer has been investigated by the LAPD.
