Police and villagers are confused and worried about why the Cash, nearly about £2,000 in £20 notes, seemed and appeared 12 times over the last five years. They were always kept in Plain Sight.

Four bundles have been left only in this current year, with the latest observed on Monday. They are constantly kept in plain sight, although in different areas everywhere in the village.

Investigators have attempted to conclude out why they keep recurring and have even taken out fingerprint checks, but they didn’t get any clue or idea.

It can be any individual who may be very rich but also careless or forgetful, or is it intended? Police recommended honest residents of Blackhall Colliery for returning in the money.

In the end, the finder of the cash takes the amount, as the cash is held for two weeks to give the owner an opportunity to get it and then given back to the finder.

Detective Constable John Forster, of Peterlee CID, said the team had interrogated many individuals and groups in the village as well as checking out the local bank and post office also and even tested for fingerprints, but the events surrounding the bundles of cash continue as a mystery.

He said: “The cash bundles were always kept or left in plain sight such as on roads and found by random individuals of the villagers who have given them to the police.”

Discover and find £2,000, hand it to the cops or to the owner and if nobody claims it the finder can keep the cash. If that’s an act of goodness it will be a lovely Christmas present for the individual getting it.’
