The 16-Year-Old Southern California High School Student Who Shot Five Of His Classmates Before Turning The Gun On Himself Has Died

The shooter who Shot and killed 2 classmates and injuries 3 students at Saugus High School in California died on Friday said in the statement released by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Nathaniel Tennosuke Berhow, 16-year-old, was treated after he shot himself on his head, officials said, and his mother was with the boy when he died.

Officials said that Berhow pulled a handgun out of his backpack on Thursday morning at the Santa Clarita school and shot five of his fellow students before turning the gun on himself.

“We did not know if the shooter had a clear vision of us or not, we just rushed and we just like prayed for our lives,” one student said. “I really thought I was going to die.”

Gracie Muehlberger, 15-year-old, and Dominic Blackwell, 14-year-old, were killed. The other three victims are assumed to survive.

Officials stated it’s not yet clear why Berhow carried out the violent assault, which happened on his sixteenth birthday. He did not leave behind a manifesto or a diary, and he has not been connected to any violent group or ideology.

However, they think the attack was planned, telling the fact that Berhow used the last bullet in the gun to shoot himself. It’s not clear how Berhow got the gun — officials said it was not one of the six guns in his residence registered to his late father, although they saw that there were also numerous unregistered firearms in the home.

Micah Turner, a student, stated that she saw the shooting firsthand. “He shot two people and I saw that happen,” Turner stated. “I just witnessed him fire one, two, three and then I understood, I was like I needed to get out of there.”

When asked what memories would stay with her, Turner stated “His face, and just seeing that one person fall.”

“It is going to be hard to forget,” she continued. “But I am gonna have to live with that scene in my head.”
