Art – Scrap Coloring

Art is one of the subjects that seems to have taken a backseat since having to go virtual. Creative art is an area that for most seems more extracurricular than essential in student learning.

Exploring and playing with art draws upon creativity, which is important for your child’s development, but it can be difficult to do in an online setting. But there are many optional resources where you can find ways to keep art in your child’s Distance Learning Schedule.

A perfect example is Scrap Coloring, where children not only can print out pages that they can color, but they can actually choose their colors digitally and actually color right on the computer as well.

The coloring portion is neat because they can actually pick patterns, not just solid colors, to design. There are other interactive art activities as well, such as tutorials in their News section – the most recent being a video tutorial on how to create origami.

Music Lessons

As is with arts, music is yet another subject that is being overlooked a distance learning schedule for most kids. Especially with group music classes like band or choir, students are unable to partake in and enjoy musical education.

This is an important part of children’s learning because music education benefits children in many ways, including improving confidence and other academic skills.

There are some fantastic resources – like the company Music To Your Home, for example – that allow for your child to take full music lessons online at home, no matter where you’re located. You don’t have to feel restricted by location or the pandemic when your kids can learn from professional musicians in the comfort of their own room.

The best part about encouraging online music classes for your child is that many music teachers have pivoted to offering more online teaching – so there are more instructors to choose from now than ever before.

Plus, if you have a younger child who has expressed an interest in music, there are many teachers who specialize in children’s classes and small groups, where your son or daughter can actually get some interaction with other kids online as well.

Remote Learning Schedule: One-on-One Tutoring

Sometimes as parents we worry that our kids are not getting enough individualized attention. There are also options for online tutoring where your child will get more assistance in the subject matters that they need it for.

A great resource for this is intelligentsia tutoring, who not only provide individual tutoring for subjects, but also test preparation and consulting if you live in the New York City area.

The expert tutors for this online group help to structure remote learning through supplementing existing educational plans that may already be in place, as well as designing their own curriculum for your child. Their mission is to really help children to build upon their future by creating a strong intellectual foundation.

Distance Learning Schedule Resources Covering All Core Subjects

If you have a child or children that you just want to get more out of the subjects they are already learning, you can enroll them in Time4Learning or ABCMouse which are two of the leaders in online games and teaching tools for children of all ages and grades.

They use their methods of creating games out of lessons, so kids don’t always know that they are learning because they are too busy having fun.

If you’re looking more towards free education resources that you can download and utilize, you should check out Open Culture, it not only has videos and books for children from K to 12th grade, but even includes specific websites and apps that you can use free to help aid your child’s learning and development.

Specific Interests

In addition to keeping the arts as part of your child’s learning, if you have a child that is interested in learning more about a specific subject or interest you’ll want to be sure to include as part of their curriculum online as well. Here are some locations for more specifically-geared interests your child might have:

  • Technology – ID Tech has many great online courses for all of tech education.
  • Photography – Kids Photography Academy is a great resource to help a child interested in learning more about cameras and courses on helping to find their vision.
  • Engineering – Kids who like to build and learn about the world around them from an engineering perspective can gain more knowledge in the field with Engineering for Kids.

There are numerous other virtual courses for any number of specific interests that you can find online. And any of those is a great idea for your children to help keep them engaged in their distance learning schedule by learning about something that they are truly interested in.

It can be very overwhelming to start a search for online resources, courses and classes to help create a longer and well-rounded schedule for your child while having to learn virtually.

With this breakdown it should be easy to identify which areas you feel your child will need from help in all subjects, to individualized learning, and the “extra” classes in creativity or hobbies, which can be and should be just as important in core subjects.

Thanks to all the available resources out there, there's no need to fret about finding some sort of virtual learning assistance to help keep your child active in their education.
