yawanews gatherd that the former governor said the move was necessary to ensure equity, justice, and fairness among Nigerians and in the country’s general interest.

He suggested that it should be the south-east’s turn to produce President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor in 2023, regardless of which party it would come from.

Balarabe noted that the south-east has not tasted power since the return to democracy in 1999 and stated that it would be morally wrong for any other zone to contest against the south-east in 2023.

He pointed out that North, south-west and south-south have all had a shot at the presidency He further said it would be unfair and selfish for any northerner to run for the presidency upon completion of Buhari’s eight-year tenure.

Balarabe lamented over the underdevelopment of the North, despite its long stay in power; urging political parties to pick their next presidential candidate from the south-east instead.

The former governor warned that there could be political unrest in the country if the south-east is ruled out of the presidency.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the minister of labour and employment, Chris Ngige, gave one condition for the south-east geopolitical zone to produce the next president in 2023.

Ngige said unless Igbo people support the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), their agitation for the presidency in 2023 would continue to be a mirage. He later added that nobody would offer the region the position of president on a platter of gold.
