FPL bosses take note: Tariq Lamptey injury update as Graham Potter hints at return date
Brighton & Hove Albion manager Graham Potter has, on Wednesday, provided an altogether positive update on the fitness of Tariq Lamptey.
Seagulls standout
Right-back Lamptey has of course endured something of a nightmare stretch on the injury front over the last nine months.
The English talent, after making the move to the south coast in January of last year, actually enjoyed a wonderful start to his first full season in Brighton’s colours.
The 20-year-old quickly established himself as the first-choice option on the right-hand side of the Seagulls’ backline, lighting up the Premier League courtesy of an impressive combination of pace, touch and sheer directness.
A goal and an assist to show for his early-season efforts even saw Lamptey, at one point, named as a priority target of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
The youngster’s upward trajectory, however, was brought to a grinding halt last December.
During a meeting with Fulham, Lamptey picked up a serious knee injury, which has kept the stopper on the sidelines ever since.
‘Came through fine’
As such, with their side having enjoyed a solid start to the new campaign, the Brighton faithful are no doubt keen to see their gifted up-and-comer add further to the options at the disposal of boss Potter in the not so distant future.
And, if the latest comments on the part of none other than Potter himself are anything to go by, then supporters of the Seagulls shouldn’t have to wait too much longer for precisely that.
Speaking at a Fans’ Forum event on Wednesday evening, the Brighton boss was unsurprisingly asked for the latest on Lamptey’s availability.
And the tactician went on to explain:
‘Tariq played in an internal 11 v 11 game on Tuesday for 20 minutes and came through fine, he did really well.’
Not only that, but, crucially, Potter went on to hint at a potential competitive return date for the 20-year-old:
‘Without putting a definite time scale on it, there’s a possibility he could be involved in the Carabao Cup game against Swansea City on 22 September.’
