Of course, you remember Orkut as it was the very first gateway that introduced us to the world of social media. Orkut talks may have been an integral part of our nostalgia trip for some time now, but things are going to change very soon as Orkut is back with Hello!

Yes, you read it right. Our first social media obsession is back in the form of a new app titled Hello. The new app is launched by none other than Orkut Buyukkokten himself, who had earlier founded the trendsetter social networking website Orkut more than a decade ago.

Hello is already available on Apple app store and Google Play store in India. The new app claims to bring people together around their interests to create positive, meaningful, authentic connections and sustained social engagement.

“We designed ‘Hello’ to help you make connections in the real world. It’s a social network built on loves not likes, and I’m delighted to say ‘Hello’ to India once again,” Economic Times quoted Buyukkokten, CEO of San Francisco-based Hello Network Inc., as saying.

The timing of the launch of Hello couldn’t be better. With younger people shifting from Facebook to Instagram, not to forget the recent data leak fiasco, the young social media users seem to be just ready for a fresh start on a new platform. It is noteworthy here that Facebook’s decline in popularity in India has affected over 20 crore users in India.

Orkut’s new avatar seems to be more than just reconnecting and socializing with old friends. On the first look, the app appears more like Instagram wherein the user’s feed will depend primarily on the interest that he/she has chosen while making the profile. In the wake of data leak rumors, Buyukkokten has declared beforehand that the company “does not have to sell user data to get revenues.”

Time will tell whether the new app will be able to gain popularity at par with Facebook or will just fizzle out in the swarm of apps. Until then, why not give Hello a fair trial?
