Inkjet Shrink Film is the fastest craft material in the West!  It is so fun and easy to use. First, there is curiousity.  Hmmm, I wonder if I could use that Canadian Maple Leaf Plaid ornament to make some shrink film earrings.

It is such a relief to know you can print on EITHER side…because if there is a choice, I would do it wrong the first time.  My photo software makes it easy to resize the jpeg and since the shrink film reduces by 50%, it is easy to know how big the image needs to be to start!

I made these earrings in 1/2 hour and I love how they turned out.

Step One:  Set oven temp to 350 degrees.

Step Two: Print out maple leaves to 3″ tall.

Step Three: Cut the maple leaves out and use a full size punch to make holes in the top and the bottom.

Step Four: Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper or vellum (I use vellum because I have stacks of it)  Place the two shrink film pieces face up.

Step Five: Put the maple leaves in the oven and watch them shrink in about two minutes.  (I place a piece of vellum on top because the tips can curl into the center, but usually the tips fall back as it shrinks)

Step Six:  I have a metal spatula handy to firmly flatten the pieces (if they aren’t completely flat) as soon as I take them out of the oven.  The pieces cool quickly and you can turn them into earrings in a jiffy.  The print doesn’t come out perfectly, but I like things to have a little personality.

Step Seven:  Add earring findings for a fun perfect for winter pair of earrings!
