You never know what you will find at a garage sale! Since I have quit my hoarder ways even when I find something fabulous….if an idea doesn’t pop in my head immediately I don’t purchase it despite it’s fabulous-ness. Fortunately when I saw the Fish wall hanging it said “sushi”.
I guess the biggest hint of a “sushi” theme was the ceramic fish was segmented and I pictured a beautiful tray of sushi rolls all lined up!
I got the canvas at JoAnn’s Fabric Store and the original plan was for the fish to be off center, but it is heavy and I needed to balance the weight more evenly.
When the Acrylic paint was drying I disguised the holes with rhinestones which was a serendipity of design+need to cover the holes!
I originally planned to have the Scrabble letters say “SUSHI” but it looked a little small, so it got switched to “I LOVE SUSHI”.
I was thinking of simulating a wave when I glued down the Scrabble letters. Don’t the letters look cute with a border of gold Ranger Stickles? I think it adds so much and makes it look more fun.
I added acrylic peach polka dots to the edge and took a gold felt pen to add a whimsical scalloped edge.
Finishing touches were chop sticks painted in the peach acrylic, a black annealed wire hook (attached with Aleene’s Tacky glue and two looped hangers.
I had this piece finished in time for my Featured Artist Show at Sunrose Gallery and was notified last week that it SOLD….. Yay!
I’m so glad I found the Fish Wall hanging! It was fun to repurpose : )
