Paper Clay and Copper ArtEmboss Mermaid Wall Hanging

It seems I can’t come to the end of possibilities to use Amaco Copper ArtEmboss!

I got the idea to make Paper Clay doll heads/torsos in the shape of paint stirrers and make copper ArtEmboss tails with sayings on them.  I collect sayings and I love the cuteness of ” Gotta get my tail to the beach” and “She loves the wild sea air”.  I sell my creations at shops along the North Coast of Oregon and believe me mermaids sell!

I love working with Paper clay and my favorite brand is Creative Paperclay, but around here at the sleep resort town of Seaside, Oregon you can’t always get what you want!  Thank goodness for Amazon Prime I usually get my order the next day.

DAS Air Dry Clay With Pattern

Cut a shape for your doll head/torso in paper and put it on the paper clay that is rolled out smooth and about 1/4 inch thick.

USE A RAZOR BLADE TO CUT THE CLAY

I use a plastic kitchen cutting mat so the paper clay doesn’t stick and a razor blade cuts the clay easily.  Smooth the edges after you remove the paper pattern.

Paper Clay Head/Torso

Have fun putting on a nose and making holes for the arms and tail!  It’s easiest to make the nose with a tiny piece of clay and wet the back with a dab of water and it will easily attach to the head. Let it dry overnight and have a blast painting the head/torso.  Your mermaid could have “tattoos”!

COPPER ELEMENTS FOR THE MERMAID WALL HANGING

Cut a 16″ sixteen gauge copper wire and bend it loosely in the middle to make a hanging loop and set aside.  Cut a mermaid tail and shapes for her hair.

Ranger Alcohol Ink, 24 gauge copper wire

Write the saying on the copper mermaid tail.  I use black felt pen to “stain” the words and a thin border of teal alcohol ink for some “mermaid-y” color.

THIS IS HOW YOU ATTACH THE WIRE HANGER/ARMS!

Put the wire hanger/arms as illustrated in the photo.

GREETINGS FROM THE BEACH!

Use 24 gauge wire to attach the tail to the head/torso and make a little bra and hot glue it.  Make wavy lines on the little hair shapes and have fun giving her a special hair do.  My favorite hair is the middle mermaid.

WE ARE BLESSED!

I couldn’t help myself, after three mermaids I wanted to make a different wall hanging so I made a tulle and ribbon skirt and made the copper arms raise high a rainbow shaped copper ArtEmboss plaque with the saying “WE ARE BLESSED”.  I don’t think I can come to the end of ways I can use it.  ArtEmboss also comes in colors and different weights.  My favorite is Copper Light Weight.  The Gold Light Weight is more “flimsy.”

A little Mermaid Wall Hanging makes a great gift but if you don’t know someone who is crazy about mermaids, I encourage you to try Amaco ArtEmboss, it is really fun and easy to work with.  No stores in my area sell it so I get mine at Amazon.com. I am an Amazon Affiliate so if you click on one of the ArtEmboss highlighted words in the post today, you won’t pay a higher price but I will receive a small reimbursement from Amazon.  Have fun creating!
