Photography has often been a male-dominated profession, with many female Photographers not given due credit for their work. However, there are a number of female digital photographers whose work range from photojournalism to personal portraits and points in between who continually do amazing work, shining a light on their culture as they see it. This gallery showcases the wide range of talent among these professionals. A number of them were recognized by the UK's Royal Photographic Society as part of its Hundred Heroines, an open call for nominations to find and honor 100 outstanding contemporary women photographers around the world. These women use the internet and social media, particularly Instagram to portray an Africa that is diverse, bright and full of energy.
