Bo Jackson- An All Star Player

Vincent Edward Jackson. A baseball legend, who was ones an American footballer. Born November 30th, 1962, Alabama and is the only sportsperson to be named an All-Star in two major sports, in Baseball, American Football and track. He was the eighth of ten children, and the siblings had supported by his mother, Florence Jackson Bond, since his father, A.D. Adams, never wed Florence.

Due to a famous campaign for “Nike”, people knew him with the nickname “Bo”, with the slogan “Bo knows”.

In his young ages, he entered in the ‘Auburn University’, where he went on to excel in baseball and football. Jackson won there the ‘Heisman Trophy’ and the ‘Bert Bell Trophy’. Bo reached the pick in his career in 1990, when his performances in both sports were very successful.

One year later, in 1991, he suffered a debilitating hip injury while playing football for the Raiders. After his serious injury, in 1994, he felt the danger in the American football and preferred to dedicate more time to his wife and his three children, he retired from baseball and from football. One year later, he decided to finish his study in the Bachelor of Science.

In 2007, he form the ‘Bo Jackson Elite Sports Complex’, a multi-sports dome facility, the food company, ‘N’ Genuity and the campaign ‘Bo Bikes Bama’ for victims of the tornado in Alabama. Finally, in 2013, ESPN Sport Science named Jackson the ‘Greatest Athlete of All Time’.

As an important player in the sport history, the multi- talented athlete played amazing football for the ‘Los Angeles Raiders’ of the ‘National Football League’ (NFL) and baseball for the ‘Kansas City Royals’, the ‘Chicago White Sox’, and the ‘California Angels’ in the ‘Major League Baseball’ (MLB).  Bo was always a low tone person, who only wanted and loved to play. He never set out to be a Hall of Fame baseball player or Hall of Fame football player.

His coach recognized the talent of this boy, and was the only man who believed in him from the beginning. Bo said:

“He’s the reason I played baseball in Kansas City,’’ Jackson says. “He asked me if I was serious about playing baseball. I told him I was. The rest is history.’’

“Bo knows”, but he knows even more now! He wouldn’t allow his kids to play football today, just anything else, but football.

“If I knew back then what I know now, I would have never played football. Never. I wish I had known about all of those head injuries, but no one knew that. And the people that did know that, they wouldn’t tell anybody.” he said.
