Anise-Spiced Applesauce Scones: A Delicious Twist On A Classic

Growing up, I always loved the comforting aroma of Applesauce Scones baking in the oven. But I wanted to put my own spin on this classic recipe. That’s when I decided to experiment with anise seeds and raisins, creating a flavor combination that’s both nostalgic and unexpected. Imagine biting into a warm, tender scone for breakfast with a delightful licorice flavor that pairs so well with the applesauce. The way those ingredients do mesh together will surprise you to no end.

Why These Moist Scones Are Worth Your Attention

This recipe for homemade applesauce scones with anise is a healthy one with canola oil and is sodium-free compared to most other scones relying on butter and salt. You also have the option to slightly reduce the Sugar or eliminate the sugar topping if you would like go a step further for your health.

Classic scones are shaped in the round and cut into about six wedges. However, I often make this by shaping them in the palm of my hands into small balls. The reason I do this is to control the portion sizes to keep from overeating, which you will do once you taste how utterly yummy they are.

Of all kinds of treats that you can bake, scones are the easiest when you are hungry for something sweet and in a hurry. Beside that, they are not as fattening as a piece of pie, cake, cookies, sweet rolls, sweet breads, etc. Therefore, you can bake scones more often without feeling as guilty, especially if you do tend to overindulge.

If you have too many and can’t finish them, you can put a few scones in a microwave dish and freshen them up. It usually takes about thirty seconds for about three small ones.

Scones have a lot going for them. You get a fabulous baked treat that takes minutes from prep to your mouth compared to all the effort other types of baked sweets without nearly as many calories.
