8 Common Misconceptions About Thermage Skin Tightening, Busted!

There are so many choices available around when it comes to beautification. There are many treatments that allow us to look younger than our real age.

Making a noise in the Skin tightening department in Singapore is Thermage CPT (Comfort Pulse Technology). It is one of the emerging non-surgical skin tightening treatments to address skin sagging and early wrinkles. It employs a patented unipolar radiofrequency technology to safely heat the collagen found in the deeper layers of our skin. This even heating causes collagen fibers to contract, and it also promotes new collagen growth.

However, even though this treatment has been making some buzz for quite some time now, there are others who still have several misconceptions about this procedure. We will enumerate them here and we will debunk them for you.

1. Non-surgical skin tightening is a myth.

Nonsurgical skin tightening is not a myth. With the right treatment, you will see your loose skin bouncing back, and your entire face looking fresher and younger. In fact, your skin can become tighter, contoured, and smoother with just one Thermage treatment. Unlike many other non-surgical cosmetic procedures, skin tightening through radiofrequency typically requires a single session.

In addition to its patient-friendly treatment process, Thermage produces natural-looking results. As your skin gradually lifts and tightens, you will appear more rejuvenated without looking like you had “work” done.

2. Thermage is not for everyone.

Men and women of all ages, skin type, and race can be safely treated, with the exception of pregnant women and patients who have an implantable heart device. You also cannot get a Thermage treatment in areas where you have a tattoo.

Thermage CPT Treatment is appropriate for all skin types and colors, with results lasting for years. In fact, one of the significant advantages of Thermage is its level of safety for all skin types, including Asian skin.

3. Thermage treatment is painful.

The early generations of Thermage were indeed infamous for the stinging and painful sensations. Some described it to be similar to that of a cigarette burn as the radio frequency is delivered in a continuous pulse. The older models of the device heats the epidermal (outermost) layer of the skin which results in redness and increased sensitivity for a few days.

However, advancements paved the way to what is now called, Comfort Pulse Technology or CPT, which delivers the radiofrequency in several short pulses. This method of delivery significantly reduces the pain and discomfort experienced in earlier generations of Thermage models. With the devices available today, you may feel some degree of discomfort. However, this is minimized by the vibrating motion and the cooling spray that is delivered before and after every pulse.

The tip design and software of the new device has also been upgraded to deliver uniformed heating. These changes translate to better results, and more comfortable treatments.

4. Thermage is only for the face.

It is true that Thermage tightens the entire face. It can even be used on the upper and lower eyelids to help tighten the skin in this delicate area. However, Thermage can also be used to tighten the stomach area, legs, thighs, knees, arms, and hands. It removes undesirable bulges, improves skin texture, and reduces the appearance of cellulite.

Basically, it can address skin aging not just on the face, but on the different parts of the body as well. Thermage CPT can be used on your face, neck, arms, legs, chest, and back, the buttocks, the thighs, and the abdomen.

5. Thermage is only effective once your skin sags.

This statement is definitely not true. Another big misconception about Thermage is that you should only get it done after your skin sags severely. Anti-ageing treatments like Thermage is best done preventively, before the skin undergoes advanced collagen decline. In this way, your skin’s youthfulness will be maintained.

Once the skin sags and loses its elasticity, it can be rather difficult to restore it to its original firmness. On the other hand, if you start early, you are able to give your skin the best chances to age beautifully.

6. Thermage has severe side effects.

Thermage treatment side effects are generally mild and may include redness, some degree of swelling, and rare instances of surface irregularities. It does not leave you with severe side effects because you can even go back to your regular activities immediately after treatment.

Your skin may appear slightly pink immediately after treatment, but this fades rapidly. Most people find that they cannot tell that they had anything done within just a few minutes after treatment. Most patients find that their appearance is normal within a few minutes after treatment. You can resume using your normal cosmetics and skincare regimen immediately.

7. The results are permanent.

While the subtle effects of Thermage are promising in providing you with a smooth, toned, and rejuvenated skin, the results are only temporary. The results can last six months to two years in some patients. This is highly dependent on your own natural skin’s collagen production and renewal process, and how efficient you are in following the basic skin care routine of cleansing, exfoliating ,and moisturizing.

8. Thermage and Ultherapy are pretty much the same thing.

Ultherapy vs Thermage – that is a common comparison being thrown around today. These two non-invasive skin tightening treatment have their own strengths, but they are not the same. The first point of difference is that Ultherapy uses ultrasound waves, while Thermage uses radiofrequency energy. Both may create a stinging sensation, but the new Thermage CPT makes it more comfortable for patients because of the cooling spray and vibration motion which makes the treatment a pleasant experience.

Given the latest CPT technology introduced in Thermage treatments in Singapore, it is now easy to defy our age. Don’t be easily swayed by all these myths, rather stick to the facts to ensure that you get the best treatment possible.
