You never want to think about retiring from Sport especially before the Olympic Games! As an athlete, we’re often so focused on the next skill or the next competition that we often don’t look much farther down the road. However, looking back, I think it’s something that we do have to consider.
There is life after gymnastics (or any sport). It might take some time to figure out your next steps but it’s important to think it through at least a little bit. With gymnasts retiring at such a young age, it’s critical to think about education and long range plans. You don’t need to know your exact plan, but you want to have at least some idea where you’re headed so you can take the steps necessary to build for your future. In this #ShannonsTake video I talk abut retirement and life after sport – yes it does exist (maybe even with a new sport)!
Is there is something in the gymnastics world you want to know more about or a question you’d like to ask me about my experience with gymnastics? Just ask!
