#GymnasticsHowTo: Stick Your Landing

When we watch gymnastics, we often “ooh” and “aah” over the high-flying skills and intricate moves. However, one of the most important parts of the sport, especially in competition, is the Landing. Major competitions have been won or lost by a simple move of a foot or tiny hop.

In this Gymnastics How To video, I’ll show you some of my tips and tricks to sticking every landing.

It’s fun to practice skills, but if you forget about the landing you’re doing yourself and your score a disservice. Often times focusing on the landings at competitions can bring your score up enough to counter lower start values. And, if you are shooting for a great team score, focusing on landings as a team is not only fun, but extremely beneficial to the overall score. Think of how many tenths of a point you give away through little steps and hops during each event. It adds up big time!

Have fun with the drills, and make them part of your workout every day. Every time you stick your landing it builds muscle memory, and a stuck landing will become second nature. As a result you’ll see your scores get better and better.
