Review: Juice Beauty – Stem Cellular CC Cream (Desert Glow)

Very long ago in high school, BB Cream was my lifesaver to cover up spots and racoon eyes because of the puberty and often staying late at night for study. Entered into the university, I got something a bit more luxury though, the CC cream, until now I’ve been into it. This sort of thing is an advanced version to surpass BB cream with lighter texture, skincare ingredients, brightening effect and color correcting. It gives a more natural look. Looked up to k-pop stars, Korean beauty products used to be my mad love, especially cushions, quicker and easier to apply.

Almost turning 26 in next few months, this is still my youthful, dynamic period of time, however, I should be more serious about anti-aging “stuff” from now on. You might not know, our beloved skin is prone to go downhill when getting older, perhaps, faster than we think. Thankfully, CC creams these day seem to take deeply concern about age-defying and moisturizing benefits. I’m gonna walk us through my review of Juice Beauty Stem Cellular CC Cream SPF 30 Sunscreen in Desert Glow. It’s really a privilege for prematuring aging and mature skins.

1. About the Product

Extraordinarily infused with numerous potent, nourishing ingredients granted from the mother nature. The CC Cream is multitasking to perfectly incorporate makeup and skincare in one act. It tends to fill in stubborn wrinkles and crow’s feet, provide velvety texture, even out discoloration, rejuvenate with antioxidants, prevent sun damage with mineral, broad-spectrum SPF 30 and ultimately moisturize skin in the absence of harmful chemicals and toxins. The product doesn’t include parabens, phthalates, petroleum, pesticides, propylene or butylene glycol, sodium lauryl sulfates, artificial colorants or synthetic parfum/fragrances. It’s absolutely certified organic and cruelty-free. Sounds incredible! I’ve always loved natural, organic things, especially not tested on innocent animals.

The CC Cream contains extracts of aloe vera (Aloe Barbadensis) leaf, loaded by glycoproteins and anti-inflammatory, healing, hydrating and soothing properties. Glycoproteins are molecules that consist of carbohydrates (sugars) bonded with proteins. Function to attract collagen, motivate cell renewal and speed up skin repair. Also, Aloe vera’s sap can hydrate skin and mitigate irritation, so this is ideal for sunburn treatment. Formulated with coconut (cocos nucifera) oil for its fabulously moisturizing, antimicrobial and age-defying activities with fatty acids. It’s inclined to fortify the lipid barrier, minimize aging signs, result in a soft, silky look and reinforce moisture retention. Blended with vegetable hyaluronic acid (Sodium Hyaluronate) to remarkably preserve water trapped on the skin outer layers longer for a moist, radiant texture.

Enriched with apple (Pyrus Malus) juice, which boasts a tremendous amount of antioxidants, such as phenolic compounds, flavonoids and phytonutrients for a youthful, lively complexion. Moreover, holds malic alpha-hydroxy acid, which tends to rejuvenate, brighten up, restore luminosity and balance out the acid mantle (pH levels). In addition, another amazing ingredient is white grape (Vitis Vinifera) derivatives as a powerhouse of vitamins, resveratrol and tartaric alpha-hydroxy acid. Resveratrol is a very common plant compound found in grape’s skin and red wine. It delivers vigorous anti-aging effects to revitalize skin cells and improve its firmness and elasticity. Additionally, similar to malic acid, the tartaric acid is a mighty fighter against external free radicals with its exfoliating nature to lift skin up for a healthy, supple look.

Furthermore, the product includes variety of botanical oils. There are castor seed (ricinus communis), sunflower seed (helianthus annuus), jojoba seed (simmondsia chinensis) and mandarin (citrus reticulata). These all ingredients are excellently abundant in emollients to significantly boost hydration in premature aging issue. This usually struggles with skin thinning, transepidermal water loss and dryness. More importantly, they provide an enormous resource of fatty acids and antibacterial, antifungal and recovering properties. Inclined to deeply replenish, lock in moisture, slow down the appearance of skin’s oxidative stress and reduce imperfections, like blemishes, dark spots or scars.

To substantially trigger skin renewal, the formulation consists of vitamins E (tocopherol) and C (magnesium ascorbyl phosphate). Both help to reinstate skin’s natural lubricating factor, plump up and increase the complexion vibrancy. Eventually, the signature element is the fruit stem cells of apple buds, grape buds and lemon leaf. Our skin is more likely to suffer the attack of environmental perils, such as debris, dirt, pollution, UV rays and unstable humidity. Simultaneously, skin’s self restorability seems weaker over time because we’re getting older. The plant stem cells are cultured and grown in a high-quality condition, avoiding those external aggressors. The stem cell extracts are like life sources to topically energize and stimulate continuous cellular regeneration for resilient, intact looking skin.

Regarding the product’s coverage, it’s mineral tinted with iron oxides. And, the product’s sunscreen active filter is Zinc Oxide (20%), which is responsible for broad-spectrum shield against UVA and UVB. It’s not absorbed into skin to arouse the hormonal disruption and at very low hazard, less likely to cause allergic reactions.

2. My Thoughts

I started using the Juice Beauty Stem Cellular CC Cream in February, 2017, while my skin was going through a bad, very bad time. It was terribly cracking and flaking, having scaly, dry patches, itchiness and redness everywhere on my face. That used to be stressful and clueless. I’ve had no idea the reason why it was that way. But after dropping all of my previous skincare products, I decided to start over and try new ones. Thank goodness, I’m back to normal at the moment. I bought the CC Cream and hoped that it would do something to bring my skin back to life. However, the biggest regret is Desert Glow doesn’t match with my skin tone, I mean completely, it makes me look like applying clay onto my skin. What a pain!

To be honest, this shade is so different from what I saw on the Juice Beauty website. compared to Natural Glow, Desert Glow seems moderately toned down for light to medium skin with a bit tan in it (warm undertone). Initially, I chose it because thought it might get along with my Asian skin tone. Look at it in person, it’s much darker than mine and very orangey, yellowish. That makes matter to me, I really fail this time. Sadly, there aren’t many choices available, only 5 shades. Natural Glow is the lightest, this might be more suitable in my case.

In terms of consistency, the product has a very creamy base and fairly thick texture. When spreading out by fingertips, it’s inclined to be more lightweight, beautifully glide on bare skin and result in a glowy, dewy finish. Moreover, it gives mildly relaxing, cooling sensation with high moisturizing, lubricating factor. One thing you may find stubborn about is it’s not self utterly dry down, even after a few minutes. The product gives greasiness on the surface. I try putting more layers upper for more coverage, it turns out being stickier and overwhelmingly shiny.

Plus, the CC cream doesn’t give much coverage, which is pretty low, translucent and tends to sheer out. If your skin is a type of having frequent imperfections, such as pimples, acne scars or dark, shallow areas under eyes and crave for high coverage, this is not your go-to. Rather, this is born for ones who demand a natural, “no-makeup” makeup look with a luminous complexion. It focuses on skincare rather than makeup effect.

The product is literally a kind of a tinted moisturizer infused with the physical sunscreen active, I prefer calling that way. Now mention its moisturizing activity, which is indeed concentrated and incredible, however, unfortunately, it didn’t work to improve my flaking condition. Scrolling back to the past, I applied the CC Cream alone in the morning right after the cleansing step according to the direction. Once the application was done, the product was genuinely hydrating, plumped skin up and smoothed out fine lines and dry patches. Nearly afternoon, it was then horribly dry and scaly. The orangey, yellowish pigment lingered to my peeling skin, cracks and dry patches around my cheeks, forehead and especially, chin. I felt very disappointed and unconfident about myself. After one week, I gave it up.

Recently, I’ve just come back to regain my trust in it, the shade is still awful to me. Otherwise, the moisturizing effect is superb as before, like quenching the skin thirst. I like its glow, but that might be too much for medium coverage. So, I use mattifying primer beneath and finishing powder on top of the CC Cream to set it in place for long time, but also reduce the shine and greasiness. The product’s coverage is not really long-wearing, it lasts for about 6 to 7 hours without the primer and powder. It’s prone to unevenly fade away on my cheeks, under eyes and T-zone area as well as leave streaks on the temples, around edges of nose and chin.

In addition to premature aging skin, I’d definitely recommend this to dry skin. Its rich emollient factors help to decrease the appearance of dullness, sagginess, fine lines, flakiness and scaly residues. I know the product didn’t actually work to fix my problem. To be fair, the shade made me really negative to continue using the product. I couldn’t be patient with it, but this is worth to try, it didn’t work for me, that doesn’t mean it won’t for you. Choose a perfect shade, it will do wonders for your skin’s sake. You can use moisturizing cream or serum prior to applying the CC Cream for extra hydration.

Normal, combination and sensitive skins can go for it. There is no need to worry about contained synthetic, harmful chemicals or fragrances, I bet dreamers with psoriasis and rosacea are gonna love it. The product is inclined to keep the scales and flare-ups at bay. Oily, acne prone skin may not really find easy with the fairly dense emollient texture and noticeably glowy finish for the daily basis. It can magnify the sheen and oily traces on the surface. Hence, that might allow the build-up of impurities and lead to clogged pores or breakouts. Last but not least, the CC Cream has obnoxious, strong smell, I’m not fan of it.

3. Packaging

Housed in a gray, squeeze plastic tube, which is quite tall and handy, not too big to take lots of rooms in your bag. The tube is opaque so it’s hard to recognize precisely the cream’s color, except for a small transparent part right above the aluminum, silver cap. I love the CC Cream tip, very convenient with a high-quality material. This helps to draw lines whilst applying under control and you can take the cream directly onto your skin. The cream doesn’t smear around, the tip makes it very sanitary. I love that.

4. Rating 8/10

Regardless the shade, I think the CC cream is really awesome with powerful moisturizing and age-defying properties. Furthermore, I wish for more coverage in it. I’m gonna give it 8 out of 10.
