How To Make Your Natural Homemade Lip Balm Without Synthetic Chemicals

Make your own lip balm with natural ingredients to treat your chapped, dry lips. It is an excellent alternative to commercial products loaded with synthetic substances.

For homemade lip balm you can use beeswax, honey, castor oil and coconut oil. Beeswax is recognized for its emollient, softening and soothing properties. It can form a protective barrier and prevent your lips from dryness. When you melt it and combine it with other ingredients, you will get harder lip balm.

Coconut oil contains fatty acids, which nourish your lips, keeping them moisturized. Plus, it has antioxidant properties that protect against damage.

Thanks to the humectants properties, honey can also help retain moisture and it works like a natural flavoring.

A little castor oil is also included in this recipe because it makes a glossy, soft shine on your lips. To achieve a refreshing tinge and a nice fragrance, you can add some peppermint essential oil.

Things you will need for the recipe:

• Beeswax

• Castor oil

• Coconut oil

• Raw honey

• Peppermint essential oil (or any other oil of choice)

• A double-boiler or microwave

• A grater

• A mixing spoon or a popsicle stick

• A mixing bowl

• Lip balm tubes or containers (sterilized)

Method of Preparation:

1. Using a grater shred a 15 gr. bar of beeswax. Transfer it in a medium bowl.

2. Then add 2-3 tbs. of coconut oil. (the proportion of coconut oil to beeswax should be 1:2.)

3. Pour 1 -1½ tsp. of castor oil.

4. Put this mixture in a double-boiler or a microwave to melt.

5. Add ½ -1 tbs. of raw honey.

6. Add 4- 5 drops of peppermint essential oil (or any other oil of choice).

7. Mix the mixture well and quickly transfer it in the lip balm containers. Be careful not to let the mass cools and hardens.

Store your lip balm in a dry, cool place. You can use it for several months. You can also use your lip balm for cuticles, if it turns out oilier and softer.
