Although a Ring can be adorned with any shape to enhance its beauty, the part that makes it a ring is the circle that fits on a finger. The ring shape has great philosophical significance in representing time and existence. If time were linear, one could ask what existed before the beginning of time and what will exist after the end of time? If time were circular, then there would be no beginning and no end.
