Hindus believe that every – year in mid – summer, Lord Jagannath, with his elder brother Balabhadra and sister Subadra, go on vacation by travelling on their grand Chariots. This belief had given rise to one of the biggest religious festival in India, Ratha Yatra”.

On this auspicious occasion, thousands of devotees are found pulling the gigantic temple – like chariots called “raths”.

Each year these wooden chariots are newly constructed with religious specifications. Several artisans are involved in building the chariots. They dress up the chariots beautifully in this festival with exclusive silk and cotton weaves of various designs, colours & intricate motifs. They are also painted in the right shades to make them look absolutely glamorous. As the chariots must look like princess on this occasion. They must possibly look the best on this occasion.

“Ratha Yatra” is thus that celebration of the year which unites huge number of people from across the world in its festivity. Rich or poor can equally enjoy the joy that this festival carries with itself. However, it’s quite surprising to know that even the Muslims vehemently participate in Ratha Yatra.
