Few things compare to leaving the day behind and slipping on your favourite pair of pyjamas that have over the years taken the shape of you and faded to that familiar tone akin to a well thumbed book. After those pyjamas slip on, your hair goes up in a domestic bun and the day’s traces from your face come off. We’re talking about sloughing off make-up and replacing it with a gentle foaming cleanser, thorough moisturizer, and a concentrated serum.
As you lift your duvet cover and reach for your current read, you can actually feel the hectic work day that was leaving you, and a certain sense of calm coming in. The beautiful resounding silence of just rustling sheets, the thumbing of pages, the hum of the AC or the slow whirl of a fan.
And when you bookmark the end of that chapter you had to devour before bed, switch off your bedside lamp as you prepare to snuggle in for a good night’s Sleep, that sense of calm we spoke about, becomes the most beautiful emotion to exist.
But there are ways in which you can take the art of catching some shut eye, a level or two up.
Start by selecting the type of Sleepwear that feels most comfortable to you. Sleepwear for women come in the form of chemises, sleep shirts, cotton pajamas, and more. To be honest, we’re partial to cosy sleepwear like cotton pajama sets and sleep shirts. When buying women’s sleepwear online especially, take into consideration the fit, fall, and fabric. And don’t be afraid to go up a size, it only makes things so much more comfy.
A sure sign of perfect soft sleepwear is that the fabric helps you keep cool during the night. It shouldn’t make you uncomfortable or restricted in the least and for this sole reason, consider pure cotton sleepwear.
Make sure the silhouettes are the anti-fit kind that don’t stick to you too close. You definitely don’t want to be tossing and turning in your sleep. Choose a length you’re comfortable with and roll with it. One way to ensure this, is by selecting classic styles in sleepwear for women. Think oversized button down sleepshirts, jammies, your brother’s loose faded t-shirt, and the likes.
Next, perfect the choice of bed sheet you make. Think about the most comfortable bed you’ve slept in. What comes to mind? You want to think back and remember the kind of sheets that were used. Cotton, satin, sateen, poly blend, etc. Since sheets come in direct contact with our skin, they are as important, if not more than pillows and mattresses in ensuring a good night’s sleep.
Reach for bed sheets that are free from embroidery and trimmings of any sort as they can irritate the skin and leave you tossing and turning all night and that’s not okay. Pick solid pastels as they set the tone for a restful night ahead. However, if you like prints, again, choose self prints that lend visual ease and are generally very soft to touch despite the slight texture.
Then, select the pillow that works for you. Consider goose feather fillers if you love that sink in cradled feel. Memory foam holds its shape rather well and allows you total comfort as it helps in distributing the weight between your neck and spine.
If you like reading while lying down, might we suggest going for one large soft or firm pillow (as per what you love best) and then adding layers with a couple of smaller firmer pillows to help prop you up while you read. These even make for cosy companions when you go to sleep.
Also, the preference of your sleep position chooses what pillows you should get. Back and stomach sleepers should opt for flatter pillows as it keeps your neck aligned. If you sleep on your side, a fluffier pillow bridges the gap between and head and neck.
Lastly, pay attention to the lighting. Dim the lights to a minimum right from when you slip into your pyjamas. This helps your mind adjust and realize that it’s sleep time soon. Allow the warm glow to lull you deeper and deeper into this feeling as you go through your nightly beauty routine, clear up last minute messes and pick a change of clothes for tomorrow. If you’re a scented candles and incense aficionado, light up some candles to help you set the tone even further.
While you read in bed, make sure to keep the light low; enough so you can read comfortably without straining your eyes. A bedside lamp and some candles do the trice just perfectly.
Awaking after a restful night’s sleep impacts your day ahead and can make a world of a difference. You’re going to switch back to back cups of black coffee for more energy!
