The most glamorous night in the GAA calendar is almost upon us. Next month players will ditch their kits for tuxes, hurls for heels and gloves for gorgeous accessories, as they celebrate the announcement of their respective teams of the year at the All-Stars. It’s a night where these hard-working athletes get the chance to let their hair down and showcase their personal style off the pitch.

To get an insight into what looks we can expect to see on the 2017 PWC All-Star Awards red carpet, as well as at the Liberty Insurance Camogie All-Stars and the TG4 Ladies Gaelic All-Stars, we spoke to stylist Irene O’Brien.  Irene let us know what trends have been cropping up on catwalks across the globe, as well as what she hopes to see make an appearance at this year’s glamorous affair.

Based on what you’ve seen coming our way for winter fashion, what can we expect to see on the All-Stars red carpet?

“Everything old becomes new again so for those keeping it traditional with a black-tie look at this year’s All-Stars, a nod to the leading men of the 30s and 40s can give a stylish but classic update. In particular, the double breasted tux jacket is making a welcome return and has been seen on all types of fashion forward men from Tom Ford to Chris Pine. The timeless three piece is another great option – particularly for those looking to throw the jacket off but still keep the aesthetic smart into the small hours! For those feeling a little more daring, colour, texture and print are all appreciated alternatives,” Irene said.

What about for the ladies?

“There was a sense of ‘more is more’ when it came to the Autumn Winter catwalks: ruffles, capes and sequin all played big, fabulous parts – and of course they are all perfect for incorporating into a red carpet look so expect to see lots of bold finishing touches. Colour-wise, bold pink, red and metallic all shone bright so fingers crossed this injection of character will be reflected on the All-Stars red carpet, all spun with the attendees’ original take that feels true to their style,” she said.

Last year there was some velvet tux’s and colourful bow ties on show. Any risky or ‘out there’ prints that you think may make an appearance?

“The beauty of a 2017 catwalk is that ‘out there’ translates to fun! This is a night of celebration so everyone should endeavour to feel at their very best while embracing what makes them feel good. Black-tie is more of a styling guide than strict instruction for a formal event these days so if a print suit is more your thing then be brave and go all out. That’s not to say take direct instruction from McGregor’s recent text sartorial choices but checkered, stripped, and hurley print should all go down nicely…,” Irene said.

Top tips for styling a tuxedo?

“When you look back on images of the most stylish men throughout history, or on more recent red carpets, fit is always key. Littlewoods Ireland have skinny, slim and tailored cut suits which means there’s an option for every body type. Play with lengths, shirts and shoes to embrace individuality and make you stand out from the crowd this All-Stars celebration,” she said.

We can’t wait to see the Style Of Play on offer!
