Let's Talk About Boobs

Tags: boobs

It's no secret that breasts have been way, Way over sexualised in our society, and while I agree that Boobs are cool and fun, it's honestly just so fucking stupid that this is still a thing. Boobs aren't sexual organs/sexual parts of someones body. They're literally just lumps of fat/muscle that are used to feed babies. Why would a person with boobs walking around shirtless, or someone feeding their child, cause cis men to pop boners, or get uncomfortable, or harass someone, or even cause rape (I'm sure we've all heard about how apparently women wearing 'revealing' clothes causes rape, because apparently men turn into monsters the second they see cleavage/nipple, or thighs, or the oh so controversial shoulder). If I'm being completely honest, there are cis men out there with boobs bigger than mine, yet they are allowed to walk around shirtless without being harassed and I'm not?

When I ask cis men why boobs are seen as sexual, they can't really give me a clear answer. Our society just tells us that boobs are sexual, 'because they just are' without any real evidence or reason. I mean, remember when when women showing their ankles, or parts of their leg was seen as scandalous and wrong? I'm sure we can all agree on how ridiculous that is now, but it's the same kind of thing, really, with the sexualisation of boobs. Society back then made a rule that women weren't allowed to show their legs in public, 'just because', with no real reason. If boobs were actually sexual and make people uncomfortable, how come in other cultures, women walk around freely without anything covering their top half without being sexually harassed or assaulted because of it?

While I am all for the '#freethenipple' movement, it seems to only serve thin, white women with small, perky, perfectly symmetrical boobs, that can be easily compared to a cis man's flat chest to try and point out there is no difference between a cis man's chest and someone with boobs' chest. But what about the people whose chest can't be easily compared to a flat chest? What about people with huge, saggy boobs, huge nipples, super asymmetrical boobs, brown nipples, inverted nipples? Are they not allowed to go shirtless? What about non-binary and trans people with boobs? What about people with perfectly normal breasts, that never ever see boobs like theirs represented in this movement? The people, like me, who don't feel like they should be allowed to show their boobs without being sexualised or judged?

Whenever I talk about this topic with people I know, they always ask me 'so you would feel comfortable walking around shirtless?', and the answer is, no, I wouldn't because
1. Boobs are still over sexualised and I don't feel comfortable being judged and looked at that way which sucks that this is a reason that I wouldn't feel comfortable going shirtless (though I am so proud of people who can overcome this, I just don't personally have the strength or guts)
and 2. My boobs aren't seen as 'normal' by others, because of the lack of variety and representation. They're very obviously asymmetrical, and it is an insecurity of mine I have not yet overcome.

Basically, there is no real reason that people with any kind of boobs should be forced to hide them (especially when they're being used to feed a baby oh my god babies have to eat you know) and anyone who has a problem with that needs to grow the fuck up.

*** Again, with all posts like these, I'm still learning and if I've said anything 'wrong' please correct me! This was super brief and quick and these are opinions I've made based on personal experience, and learning from others.
