Not Your Everyday 'Paper Girls'

Admittedly, the only reason I started reading comics in the first place was because of my Love for the The Walking Dead TV show. Obviously, I fell in love with the comic too, but didn't expect to be reading many others. I've always seen comics as something either kids read, or people who are super fans of marvel/DC/super heroes or manga...and I'm neither of those (though I do have a soft spot for particular super heroes like The Flash, Hawkgirl, Spider-Man and Deadpool).

After reading TWD, I moved on to another by Robert Kirkman, Outcast. While I enjoy it and think it's a cool, interesting Story, I didn't love it anywhere near as much as TWD, so I questioned whether comics were actually for me.

Then came Paper Girls.

As you can probably guess, the story follows a group of paper girls in the 80s....but they don't stay there for too long. Without giving too much away, just know that it is a sci-fi themed story, so time travel, 'aliens' and strange technology is a given. But even if you aren't too into the sci-fi genre, still give it a read because it is brilliantly written (I mean, isn't almost everything by Brian K. Vaughan?).

Also the art style is so, so beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. It perfectly matches both the 80s, and sci-fi vibe and the colours (cool purples, blues, pinks with some pops of vibrant colour) just make it even more beautiful and enjoyable to read. I especially adore the cover art, with a bold wash of colour.

It's not too often a story about a group of teenage Girls Kicking Ass while still being human and, well, like teenage girls becomes so popular. And while it does have some problematic things (like the use of slurs, but I guess these girls are from the 80s...) overall it's just a really cool story that I'm still trying to wrap my head around because it's only just begun and so many questions are yet to be answered but I'm so excited to see what happens/is happening and why and I'm just really really excited and I love this comic can you tell?

In my opinion, it's a great comic to start if you've never read one before because it's easy to read and follow (though like I mentioned, it's only just begun so things are a bit confusing because, well, we have no idea what is going on). So if you love girls kicking ass, sci fi or beautiful artwork, please check this one out because I promise you will probably love it just as much as I do.
