Hey Guys! We posted on our Instagram last month that we would love to start reviewing and supporting local business, and here’s our first review post!
We rarely go out to try new restaurants but Hamilton has a lot of gems that we couldn’t wait to try out through this series. We came across Born and Raised and we instantly loved that they use local ingredients. Born and Raised is located at the corner of James Street N and Robert Street. Which is a great location with other lovely restaurants, cafes, art galleries and more.
Born and Raised opened last year in July 2016 and it is one of a kind although this is the second restaurant created by the executive chef Vittorio Colacitti. We found the menu was small compared to other restaurants but you can tell that they put in a lot of work with the meals that they make. They’re ingredients are not only fresh but local which is a score!
We decided to visit on a Saturday evening and made reservations through their website. It was very surprising to get a call Saturday afternoon from their hostess confirming our reservation. It’s really nice that they take the time out to do little things like that! When we got there weinstantly loved the warm, cozy atmosphere. And the decor was great from the flooring to the accent pieces around the windows and the art on the wall.
Let’s get down to the food!
Gugu ordered their pasta dish of the day which was their Lamb Neck Ragu. When it first came out I felt like the portion size was small since I was hungry but by the end of my meal I was actually struggling to finish. Every bite had an explosive lamb/meaty flavour even when I was just eating the pasta with no meat which I appreciated. It was a great dish and I would definitely recommend any lamb or meat lover to give it a try.
Sandra ordered a Monte Pollino Pizza which is one of five on the menu. I’m not the biggest expert when it comes to wines so I can’t go into the greatest detail of the Rose I had but it was quite good actually even better than other rose’s I’ve had. The pizza had roasted pork neck, habaneros and pineapple (yes I am a pineapple on pizza advocate.fight me). Although it wasn’t as spicy as I had hoped, the waiter did give me a spicy oil to add some spice. As a pizza lover I can always tell how great a pizza is by its crust and this crust was so soft yet crunchy… I loved it. The pizza itself was pretty big so I didn’t even finish it at the restaurant so I had delicious leftovers.
It goes without saying that we really liked this restaurant. The food was delicious, the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. We would definitely recommend Born and Raised to anyone in the area. To be directed to their website simply click anywhere in this post that says | Born and Raised |
