What is it about the pin-up look that attracts you?
It’s the notion that everyday is a whole new look. It has so much versatility, such complexity while keeping similar elements of Style and class. I also love how finished and put together pinup girls look. It took me a while to master but I knew I’d nailed it the day a little girl told me I looked like a princess at the shops. To be complete in appearance makes me think of an artwork and everyday I like to create something new!
Who are your biggest style icons?
I have a few Style Icons.
Dita Von Teese is definitely one. Not only because of her incredible vintage styling but because I know she’s a lover of vintage foundations and corsets. Her hair is incredible and probably my biggest envy.
Marilyn Monroe is another and I think a popular choice among pinups. I personally like her because she wasn’t afraid to take fashion risks and always seemed to look glamourous, even in a pair of pants and a pullover. Her seemingly effortless charm is something I definitely aspire to.
Rita Hayworth is another. She was so stunning and sassy and her red locks were amazing. Plus, her ability to dance also made my jaw drop. Not only was she stunning, she was skilled and look great at the same time.
Speaking strictly style, what is your favourite era and why?
I guess I feel most at home in the 1950s. It has influences from the 1940s which is an era I love as well but is more colourful and playful, which is something I definitely love. I am also a fan of full swing skirts and petticoats as well as having a bit of a new found love for vintage hats.
What advice would you give someone who is trying to achieve that classic pin-up look?
That looking polished is one of the key elements and attention to detail is one of the biggest key factors. Things like nail colour, stockings, a brooch, an earring/necklace set all these things are so important to the finish of an outfit. I’ve even recently really discovered just how much authentic a classic look will be when you wear proper foundation garments (bullet bras, long line bras, girdles, corest, stockings, etc). The finer details help pull a vintage outfit together!
Finally, which Voodoo Vixen item are you currently lusting after?
Its definitely a tie between the Bernadette Dress and the Bianca Dress! I’m such a sucker for florals and these prints are just perfect for this coming summer in Australia!
