As a blogger and an avid Nail polish fan I have heard of toxin friendly nail polishes but as someone who always had bitten down stubs instead of nails I figured that it didn’t really matter until now. I’m now in the process of growing my nails and although I’m trying to look after them I do like to paint my nails a LOT so I was over the moon when I was contacted by Margaret from Maggie Anne Nail Polishes and sent a polish to try.

The Maggie Anne Nail Polishes come in these sleek looking square glass bottles, the square lid pops off to reveal a smaller round lid underneath which has the applicator attached. The packaging is simple yet sophisticated looking and to me oozes charm. These polishes are more expensive than the average high street nail polish at £10.50 a polish, to me this is unusual for a new launch to have a higher end price tag simply because I think less people would be likely to blow a tenner on a brand that they haven’t tried before, BUT this polish is toxin free so I can understand why it’s a little pricier.

Starting with the philosophy and the idea behind toxin free polish, Six free means that the polish is absent from six chemicals which are usually present in nail polishes. This polish is free from Toleune, Dibutyl Pthlate, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor and THTP. Just to give a little background (and don’t worry I’m not fearmongering) here’s some of the effects of these six chemicals based on my online research:

Toleune – Used as an industrial feedstock and solvent, present in common glue, it is sometimes inhaled recreationally and has the potential to cause neurological (nerves and brain) harm.
Dibutyl Pthlate (DBP) – Banned by the European Union and United States from being used in cosmetic nail polishes. An anti parasitic drug used commonly to increase the plasticity of materials.
Formaldehyde – A known human carcinogen (having the potential to cause cancer) mainly used in the production of resins, but is toxic to humans and animals and can cause severe damage to the upper digestive system. Also used as part of an enbalming fluid.
Formaldehyde Resin – A synthetic polymer consisting of Formaldehyde and urea (a chemical compound which is the main substance from urine of mammals).
Camphor – A waxy, flammable substance that is believed to be toxic to insects and is also used to be a plasticizer to be used in explosives such as fireworks. It is poisonous in large doses.
THTP – (Thiamine Trophosophate)  – Found in bacteria it’s a derivative of the vitamin Thiamine which is made unstable by ultraviolet light.

As you can see these chemicals can be quite nasty, now obviously cosmetics must be approved by various regulatory bodies to ensure their safety but these six ingredients are ingredients that you probably would be best avoiding. Maggie Anne Nail Polishes are free from these chemicals, they are also not tested on animals and are vegan. These polishes also claim to be safe for pregnant women, people with allergies and those undergoing cancer treatments.

The shade Emma is this gorgeous sugary pink with a slight blue undertone to it. Usually I avoid pink like the plague but this colour is so flattering on a variety of skintones and I was really impressed. The brush is a fat brush which is easy to work with and one to two coats guarantees maximum opacity.

I absolutely adore the glossy finish from wearing this and to fully test this I applied it and didn’t use a topcoat. It lasted a good five days without chipping. I really was blown away by this formula, I expected it to be somewhat lacking but this is rich, pigmented and very glossy and professional looking but without the added damage of using proper gel nails.

Overall, I’m very impressed with this, I personally would repurchase this polish and I will be checking out the rest of the range as there’s some stunning colours. If you do have the money to spare then I would highly recommend these polishes as they are bound to impress. I would describe them as comparable to the Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paints and I have to say the longevity and finish was better than Essie polishes which really did surprise me!
