Caudalie Premier Cru Eye Cream Review

Eye Cream is one of those products that I probably should be invested in but usually they disappointed me. I’ve tried high end and affordable eye creams from the Superdrug Vitamin E Eye Cream right up to the Origins GinZing eye cream and I’ll be honest, my Superdrug Vitamin E Eye Cream is super budget friendly and it’s my go to. Nevertheless, I got my hands on a sample of the Caudalie Premier Cru Eye Cream from one of those So Post things and I’ve been testing it this week, here’s my thoughts.

I have a deluxe sample and the packaging is quite different, my sample is in a small squeezy tube whereas the full size is in a larger bottle with a pump so there’s definitely a difference. My sample is 5ml whereas the full size is 15ml retailing for £49.00 which in my opinion is very expensive especially for 15ml of product.

I’m going to dive straight into the product description, this it taken from the Look Fantastic website:

Achieve younger-looking eyes with Caudalie Premier Cru The Eye Cream, a lightweight formula that is gentle on delicate skin. The deeply nourishing eye cream melts into skin instantly to deliver noticeable anti-ageing benefits, soothing puffiness and reducing the appearance of dark circles.

Hydration is replenished to smooth and firm skin, resulting in a more youthful facial structure. Infused with soft-focus pigments, the treatment imparts a radiant, natural-looking glow that leaves eyes looking brighter, wide-awake and years younger.

The first thing I noticed about this was the smell and I don’t like it! The scent is really hard to describe but smells quite alcoholic and olive-like which just doesn’t do it for me. The packaging made me think of grapes which I hoped this would smell like but apparently not.

These are the ingredients, I’m not surprised to see caffeine in an eye cream but I am disappointed to see alcohol within this, especially based on the cost and the fact that eye cream goes on the delicate skin around the eye.

Aqua/Water/Eau, Coco-Caprylate/Caprate*, Ethylhexyl Stearate, Silica, Glycerin*, Butylene Glycol*, Cetearyl Alcohol*, Bis-Behenyl/Isostearyl/Phytosteryl Dimer Dilinoleyl Dimer Dilinoleate, Hydrogenated Avocado Oil*, Ci 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), Mica, Hydrogenated Olive Oil Stearyl Esters*, Caffeine*, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid*, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil*, Palmitoyl Grape Seed Extract*, Palmitoyl Grapevine Shoot Extract*, Sodium Carboxymethyl Beta-Glucan, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil*, Acetyl Tetrapeptide-5, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7*, Citric Acid*, Cetearyl Glucoside*, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Tocopherol*, Tocopheryl Acetate*, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Carbomer, Caprylyl Glycol, Sodium Benzoate, Arginine, Xanthan Gum, Lactic Acid, Sodium Phytate*, Titanium Dioxide, Tin Oxide, Ci 77491 (Iron Oxides) (187/034).

Onto the texture, it’s kind of difficult to describe but kind of reminds me of a silicone primer. It certainly isn’t a super drying texture and is more hydrating than a silicone based primer, but at the same time this doesn’t scream cream to me and it’s not as wet as my other eye cream. Think of this as a dry cream, it has that cream formula but is slightly thicker most likely due to the oils in the product. I also noticed from my swatch that it has a slight yellow tone to it.

Once blended out it’s much more radiant without being shimmery or glittery which is nice! The product claims to be infused with gold and silver radiance pearls to illuminate and brighten so I’m guessing this effect is due to these. Unfortunately this effect is much more prominent on my hand, though it does add a small amount of radiance to my eyes as the area is dull and textured I just don’t see that.

So how did it make my eyes look? The results were just okay, I struggled to notice a difference in results between this and my Superdrug Vitamin E and I prefer the cooling texture and lower price point of the Superdrug cream. Personally with this I fely very underwhelmed, it didn’t do much for my fine lines and though it added a small amount of radiance it didn’t add as much as other creams I’ve tried.

Overall, I was disappointed, this is such a hyped up product and the results didn’t blow me away and for the price I expected more. Personally, I wouldn’t purchase the full size of this nor would I recommend it. It’s okay but that doesn’t really cut it for a higher end product!

The Caudalie Premier Cru Eye Cream is available from Look Fantastic for £49.00.

I hope that you enjoyed this post and if you did please hit the like button, let me know in the comments if you have tried this eye cream and Caudalie as a brand. I am still keen to try the Beauty Elixir since I’ve heard such great things.
