Beauty Commandments #2

A couple of years ago I created a Beauty Commandments post which I really enjoyed actually, the aim was to think about beauty resolutions and taking care of myself. Despite the whole shift online to mindful and take care of yourself, I’m guilty of sometimes neglecting myself, pushing myself too much and not taking a step back and allowing myself to recharge. I’ve actually completed a few of my old beauty commandments so I’m going to share those and then point out my new aims, I hope you enjoy this post!

Old Beauty Commandments
1) Thou shalt cleanse properly daily
Achieved! I have a regular skincare routine that I complete daily plus I can’t remember the last time I used face wipes. Currently I have a stress breakout but before that my skin was looking so much better!

2) Thou shalt grow thy nails
Achieved! I will admit that the last week has been one of the most stressful weeks I’ve had so I did bite my nails BUT before that I’d kept them long for months and on the whole my nails have been longer than I’ve ever managed to keep them before. So, minor setback but I’m going to keep on with this.

3) Thou shalt wash thy makeup brushes regularly
Achieved! I wash them weekly.

4) Thou shalt not wreck my hair with dye
Achieved, the last time I dyed my hair was July 2017 so I’m doing pretty good! (Though I am craving a colour change).

5) Thou shalt style thy hair and not throw it up and hope for the best
I still don’t do anything uber fancy just straightening it so it’s neat for work but that’s still a huge improvement!

6) Thou shalt groom thy brows
Mostly achieved, I still let them grow out a bit too much at times and I HATE plucking them but they’re much better now.

7) Thou shalt not compare myself to everyone else
Not achieved but what can I say? I’m a human.

8) Thou shalt practice eyeliner application
Not achieved, I’m still a noob, whoops!

9) Thou shalt commit to a regular sleeping pattern
Kinda achieved, I have a regular sleeping pattern in the week now but weekend’s are a bit all over the place.

10) Thou shalt slot in ‘me time’ once a week
Kinda achieved depends on what needs doing but for the most part I’m concentrating on spending time with my other half and chilling out too!

New Beauty Commandments
1) Thou will style my hair and use my styling products not just hope for the best
I love texture in my hair and I have texturising products so I need to do more stuff with my hair and use the products more! I will admit this is dependent on time in a morning but I’l like to make more effort.

2 ) Thou will shave properly with a shaving cream or conditioner and stop dry shaving
I am so bad for shaving with water in the shower and I need to stop because I am killing my skin and often left with razor burn. SERIOUSLY I NEED TO STOP. I did go through a can of shaving foam so it’s time to get some more and use conditioner in the meantime.

3) Thou will make a conscious effort to exfoliate and moisturise my body regularly.
This, this 100% I’m not awful on the moisturising front but with it being so cold I hate sitting there shivering. I have picked up a spray body moisturiser to try and I’m determined to use up my body butter. The exfoliating part I’m terrible at so that is something I need to work on and pronto.

4) Thou will continue to shop my stash and will stop buying blushers and highlighters
My blusher and highlighter collection is beyond ridiculous now, I have a lot of new unopened products to try and plenty I’m trying to use up. Yes I love blusher and highlighter but seriously, I need to stop buying them because they take FOREVER to use up.

5) Thou will make an effort to use sunscreen and protect my skin more
Shock horror another thing I’m crap at BUT I’m already making steps to change this, I’ve picked up the Body Shop Skin Defence Essence which came highly recommended by Mikhila from Miss Budget Beauty and this is something I’m going to use. If it doesn’t work I know I like the Clinique Skin Solutions it’s a green primer with SPF in it.

6) Thou will start trying to avoid abrasive face scrubs and stuff that damages my skin
I read somewhere that face scrubs actually tear the skin so I am going to avoid these and microbeads, I don’t want to kill the environment and I also don’t want to kill my skin. If I want to exfoliate my face I’m going to use a chemical exfoliator or something like the Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel. Also face masks with a million bits of walnut shell in them legit hurt my face so they need to go.

7 ) Thou will go through my makeup brushes and use them correctly and replace old ones or ones I don’t use
I have so many “angled liner brushes” that came in brush sets and they’re always far too wide so I never use them. I need to go through my collection of brushes, chuck the ones that are old or that just have no use in my collection and to hang onto the ones I do use, that way I can find out what brushes I actually need too.

8) Thou will regularly exfoliate my lips
When I had the flu my lips dried out sooooo badly, luckily I do have a Lush Mint Julips Lip Scrub which I adore so I need to keep on top of the lip exfoliating, especially as I’m wearing a lot of liquid lipsticks lately.

9) Thou will make an effort to get a baking soda toothpaste and whiten my teeth
I’ve mentioned this previously, my teeth are awful and I need to try and keep them as white as possible. This doesn’t mean eroding away the enamel but at the same time I’m tempted to get an Arm and Hammer toothpaste and sort it out.

10) Thou will adjust skincare accordingly depending on my skin’s needs
My skin has always been combination but mostly on the drier side, but stress, diet, weather, hormones etc has turned it quite oily lately plus I’ve had a breakout. I’m finding that certain skincare and makeup products aren’t working like they did before so I do need to switch up my stash accordingly.

So there we have it, I really hope that you enjoyed this post and if you did please hit the like button, also I’d love to know in the comments if you can relate to any of these plus what your beauty commandments and resolutions are!

Thanks for reading.
