Why is Self-Love so Hard?

If you were to ask me if I consumed lots of delicious Food this weekend and by “delicious food” you mean:

Gumby’s Pokey Stix (for the Columbia, MO. friends)

pizza_4

Chips, chips, and more chips

Halloween Candy (Because it’s October, duh)

Noodles & Co.- Pad Thai

Pancakes on pancakes

Andy’s Pumpkin Pie Custard (make that a medium),

then yes, I did consume a lot of delicious food this weekend.  And by no means do I have any regrets.  (“No Ragrets.”  Sorry, I had to.)  But besides me enjoying food, I know many girlfriends feel the same way about their food as I do.  The passion is there, so why not enjoy it?

Today’s evolving society has completely butchered our idea of “healthy”.  With TV, ads, and articles all pushing the latest weight loss plan,  it is no wonder why women obsess on whether or not they fit “society’s standard.”  Why are we not allowed to be happy with the way we are?  And by no means am I shooting down healthy eating and working out, because I participate in both, just not this past weekend.  But, besides the fact of just being happy with our outside bodies, let’s take a step back and appreciate the wonderful things our bodies can do.

happiness-is-not-a-size

There are so many elements that make up a body, and body composition is only one of the hundreds.  Our eyes, nose, skin, hair, hips, etc…why not obsess over these elements?  Why has society altered our focus to simply the lower stomach and thigh area?  Little by little, and by a lot of work, we can start appreciating ourselves and working to better ourselves instead of changing.  Look at the positive, and be thankful for the fact that the ability to better ourselves is within us, and not society.  Be there for someone who struggles to appreciate this quality.  And lastly, it is okay to slip up.  This is the beauty of the matter. We’re all imperfect and accepting that truth is the first step.
