Life Lately: The House Update

Can you believe it’s 2018? Where has the time gone? It feels like it was yesterday when we were saying goodbyes to the not so famous 2016 and here we go again, reminiscing on 2017 and looking ahead to 2018.

I have been madly busy with our House for the last 2 months and we spend every minute of our spare time DIYing, painting, wallpapering (you could have watched my insta stories here!) and there is plenty more to come. I feel like only just now I can finally start posting few snaps of my home here on my blog. It’s been the biggest journey of 2017 with a big finish in December (just one week before Christmas!!!) but nothing can make up for that feeling I have when I get home to a nice clean environment that we have worked on ourselves. All that hard work, frustration and arguments were all worth it in the end.

So in case you were wondering what I’ve been up to in the last few months and why have I not been blogging as much, please continue reading…

Project One: Our Dining Room

Our Dining room might seem like a finished project on one side but a mess on the other. We plan to get rid of that table as we look to upgrade for a bigger size. We love to host parties and want to make sure we have seats to accommodate all our family and friends.

We also plan to create a coffee corner opposite our dining table, so I try to look away from that wall for now as it’s the only one not painted right now and also has cables sticking out from the TV that previous owners had there. I can’t wait for this project to be finished and you’ll find me constantly collecting ideas on my Pinterest.

May I also point out our new record player? This for now sits on our dining table but will eventually be moved to the coffee corner to complement the whole mood of that place. I just can’t wait to have my friends over and listen to our records!

Also, may I proudly present you our feature wall that we spruced up using brick slips? Post on that coming soon!

I got this spoon and a fork from HomeSense and I would really love to have matching coasters but why oh why are these so expensive?! It’s almost impossible to save money when you’re doing your house up so I’ll probably have to wait a bit longer.

Project Two: Our Bedroom

We’re also half way there with our bedroom. While the wallpaper is up and walls painted the whitest shade you can think of, it still requires many touches. I long to have matching runners alongside each side of the bed and I hope to get Ralph Lauren lamps on our bedsides. I’m keeping my eyes peeled for sale!

I also recently got a very beautiful lampshade  and a decorative cushion from Isobel Alice. The cushion (buy here) sits really well in our dining room (as per the picture above) and I plan to use the lamp (buy here) in my second floor hall, which still needs decorating and new carpets by the way, so for now, I keep it in my bedroom. I do like all things animals and plants, hence the wallpaper theme and I’m wanting to add a lot more plants. This place ought to be my sanctuary and I’m so excited we’re nearly there. What do you think of the lamp and the cushion, aren’t they just gorgeous!

We also opted for crates instead of bedside tables at the moment because I struggle to find the style I want. We want to replace our bed but until that decision is made, there is no point of buying bedside tables that might not match the bed in future. Also, I’m quite proud of my little corner, as those crates actually provide plenty of space to hide my knick-knack (please read make-up) and still look stylish in the bedroom.

So as you can see, there is still plenty of work to be done on my house (and not enough time). I try to remember, that nope, in the grand scheme of things – those small little things that I agonise over really don’t matter. We both enjoy doing it up ourselves even though it takes time; perhaps it makes us appreciate it all more.

So, just as a little reminder – don’t fret if you don’t have it all together, if your house don’t look instagrammable, or if it just requires a lot of work.

All those things will come, they just need a bit of time (…and hard work with a bit (a lot) of dedication) but it’ll all work in the end. trust me.

What are your projects for 2018?
