Celebrity Designers Casting Call

Do you ever wish your favorite celebrity would either create a Fashion line or partner with an existing brand on a line of clothing and apparel? I am going to share in this post a few of my favorite style icons and the reason I believe their magnetic style should be shared with the world by way of fashion designs.

Below, and in no particular order, is my list of stylish celebrities whom I wish would also consider becoming fashion designers.

Socialite, former reality star and sometimes model Olivia Palermo demonstrates each day she is photographed while out and about that she understands the meaning of the word chic. Olivia Palermo, for those of you who don’t know, used to be on the defunct MTV show The City. Every outfit this woman wears exudes classic chic. She has some intangible factor that I wish could be bottled up and spread around to all whom want to incorporate a similar style into their own wardrobes. The only problem is that were she to start her own label there is a likelihood that the price of the clothing and accessories would be out of my league. She is so accustomed to luxury everything that it is possible clothing and accessories from her line would only be available at luxury designer retailers. I can still hope, however, that she would consider those of us whom have a much smaller clothing budget. This belief is substantiated by how she dresses. She has been photographed in outfits consisting of pieces from retailers Zara and Topshop. The prices of clothing and accessories at both retailers ranges from budget-friendly to moderate. This proves that Olivia Palermo espouses to the high-low philosophy of dressing. She knows how to mix, for example, Burberry pieces with J.Crew separates to create a compelling look. I would love to see what she could do with her own line of apparel and accessories.

Actress Blake Lively, formerly of Gossip Girl, a co-star in the movie Green Lantern and one of the faces of L'oreal Paris is another fashionista on my list of celebrities that I want to see launch a fashion brand. She seems to have an instinctive sense of style that was likely inherited from her mother, a former model. She routinely does not use a stylist for Red Carpet events but consistently looks superb when she appears on the red carpet. Rarely, has she appeared in outfits that receive a thumbs down. In addition, how often is she on the worst dressed roster on Fashion Police? I would love to see what she could do if she put her mind to it. I know she has a day job or two as an actress and with the face of gigs but if she ever decides to expand her reach into the world of fashion design I think she might just surprise people who may perceive her as just another pretty face.

Actress Sarah Jessica Parker is also on my list of fashion icons whom I wish would launch a clothing line.  She had semi-success with Steve and Barry’s, a former retailer, in 2007 when she launched her line Bitten but the collaboration did not work out. Steve and Barry's began having financial problems about a year later and because of their ultimate bankruptcy her line was abruptly discontinued. Her Sex and the City pedigree expedited her entry into the fashion icon ranks; however, since the end of that show's television run she has proven time and again that when she steps out for a red carpet event it is news-making. Her style ranges from accessible to high-end and she switches it up on a dime which makes her a true style chameleon. I know she just launched SJP a line of shoes but I still think she is capable of designing affordable quality clothing with the right design partners. Perhaps, after the failure of her partnership with Steve and Barry she has shied away from going too far out on a limb but I believe this is a mistake. She is the type of style icon that understands how to keep fashion lovers guessing. One minute she might be wearing an haute couture gown and swanky hat and the next a midi-skirt and cardigan. Who knows how far she could propel herself into the world of fashion design were she to incorporate her own personal style into the world of apparel design. She may have been burned once as a result of her Steve and Barry's partnership but maybe one day she will give it another try.

The former host of music program Fuse News, periodic DJ, and occasional model Alexa Chung is also on my list of those whom should, and from what I learned a few days ago, will give serious consideration to starting her own fashion label. Her ability to pair together separates that on paper does not make sense is unparalleled. She has an uncanny ability to mix and match garments that seem like illogical pairings but work to superb effect. Because of this talent it is likely that her repertoire of lookbooks would be considered as highly eclectic. It is rare for Alexa Chung to be on a worst dressed list. This alone proves she has the Midas touch. Her style is in my opinion a result of a devil may care attitude. She simply does not follow the fashion rules. There are also tomboy elements to many of her looks. She notoriously pairs oxfords and flats with even dresses. At other times, she appears in print dresses with sneakers. She constantly mixes it up which keeps her fan base on edge. I believe if she designed a line it would appeal to women whom dress for themselves not for others.
