New Chanel Rouge Coco Gloss

When everybody else seems to be flaunting tinted lip balms and novel new lip pigments, Chanel has chosen instead to release a whole new class of lip glosses. The Lèvres Scintillantes Glossimer is a classic in the Chanel makeup repertoire, and one that long-time fans (myself included) have relied on time and time again. It was quite a shock to many of us to see that the entire range has been discontinued, and it is interesting to see how much better the new Chanel Rouge Coco Gloss can get!
Chanel Rouge Coco Gloss is formulated with skin-loving ingredients to make your lips healthier and smoother with continued use.  Natural jojoba, sunflower and mimosa waxes, and coconut extract help to keep the lips moisturized and shiny.  Volumnizing Peptides and Vitamin E plump up the lips and keep lines and wrinkles away.

In addition to the lip-loving formula, the new Chanel Rouge Coco Glosses also pack more pigment within.  Whilst not as opaque as the Rouge Allure Glosses [reviewed here], the colors are noticeably more intense than the previous Lèvres Scintillantes Glossimer.  The finish is also more gel-like, using film-formers and translucent glass beads to give a glossy shine rather than shimmers… there are still some of my beloved shimmery shades in the range, but far less than before.

To aid application, Chanel has replaced the older doe-foot applicator with a wider, angled tear-drop shaped applicator. This is to help spread the pigments in the gloss more evenly and over a wider area, so that you do not need multiple strokes to cover the entire lip.

There have been slight tweaks to the packaging to give the new Chanel Rouge Coco Gloss a more modern appeal.  The tube is more angular and less rounded on the sides, the gold band at the neck is thinner, and the Chanel logo on the top is now silver rather than gold.  Just minor aesthetical changes to help differentiate the old and the new… I personally rather prefer the new less-rounded sides as I can now stack them better!

There are 24 shades in the new Chanel Rouge Coco Gloss collection, including 3 unique topcoats.  I have 1 of them here – shade 774 Excitation – which is a shimmery gold topper with a translucent base that can be used on top of any lip color to add a bit of oomph.  There is a darkening topper called Caviar, and a orange-red Impulsion to warm up lip colors with too much blue in them.  I have also swatched 5 other shades from the permanent range for your reference:

  • 119 Bourgeoisie – is a chic mauve with some pink and gold shimmers…. one of my favourites!
  • 728 Rose Pulpe – is a light pink with some pale pink and purple shimmers
  • 748 Nectar – is a brightened vermillion with a cream finish
  • 762 Heart Beat – is a cool-toned red with a cream finish
  • 766 Caractere – is a deep plum with a cream finish

All the shades wear superbly, the darker creams leave a light tint on my lips even after being worn off with eating and drinking. Longevity is as you may expect with a gloss, though with their moisturizing and non-sticky properties, I really don’t mind touching up throughout the day.  There has been a Chanel Lèvres Scintillantes Glossimer at every major event of my life, from high school prom to my wedding day, and I look forward to making more memories with the new Chanel Rouge Coco Gloss!

Out now in stores, go out and have fun!
