Confessions of a Sarcastic Mom's 2018 Favorites

It's the last day of 2018 already! This year went by in a blink it seems like, and each passing year goes faster and faster. It's gotten even worse the older my son is. I've missed blogging so much, and I really want to jump back in for 2019! I thought today I'd share with y'all some of my favorite things from this past year! Not necessarily brand new things, but just things I've enjoyed.

Favorites: Movies
Of course there were a TON of movies we saw in 2018 (Hello Infinity War?), but these 3 right here are the ones that I've watched over and over.
  • Truth be told, I do not have an accurate count of how many times I've watched Baby Driver. It's one of those movies I had wanted to see and wanted to see, and wasn't able to watch until it aired on Showtime. One viewing in and it became a habit. Every time it was on, I stopped to watch if I was flipping channels. It's almost become a joke. Everyone expects me to be watching it now. It's about a kid who is a getaway driver for a Heist Boss. And everything he does is choreographed to music he's always listening to on iPods. It's super cool the way everything lines up!
  • Happy Death Day is a movie I thought looked pretty cool when I saw previews, but then never made it to the theatre to see. I took a chance when it came out on DVD to cold purchased it, and I was not disappointed! I thought it was funny and creepy and fun! I can't wait until the sequel comes out!
  • Do you know how many times I watched Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again in the theatre? 4 1/2. Yes, a half. One time when I was seeing it with my friend, half way into it, the projector blew. Seriously, man. I'm a HUGE ABBA fan - I've loved their music since I was a kid. I love the original movie, too, but this one, to me, was FUN. Lily James is my new celebrity crush.

Favorites: Fandom eyeshadow palettes
This was my year of foray into copious purchase of eyeshadow palettes. I purchase from Hot Topic all the time because they have the coolest fandom palettes! Pictured are just a few of the ones I've acquired recently: Wonder Woman, two different Supernatural palettes, Riverdale, Mean Girls and Beetlejuice.

Favorites: Books
I didn't read as much as I would've liked to this year. My goal was 20 books, and I think I managed 13. I keep track here. But what were my favorites this year?
  • I have been a fan of Kendare Blake since I first read Anna Dressed in Blood, it was a no-brainer that I was going to try out her newest series that starts with Three Dark Crowns. The 2018 installment, Two Dark Reigns, is the third of the four-book series. ICYMI, this series is about triplet queens who must fight each other to their death for their crown. One Queen To Rule Them All basically haha!
  • The premise of One of Us Is Lying by Karen McManus has been described as Pretty Little Liars meets The Breakfast Club - and that's pretty accurate. It's twisty and fun, told from the POV of each of the "Us" involved in the title. So paying attention while you read is key. But you start to pick up on each character's way of thinking. I recommend!

Favorites: Coloring Books
I sometimes unwind by coloring. I used to think it was weird, as an adult, to enjoy coloring. Then I found out it wasn't so weird haha! I have all kinds of coloring books now - two of my most recent acquisitions are The Selection Coloring Book and the Doctor Who Coloring Book.

Favorites: Music
I love music. I listen to it all the time. Which is a huge problem when the CD player in my Jeep went south and started spitting my CDs out at me. Radio around here just doesn't have a station for my tastes, so it's been a challenge! But here are two of my favorite CDs this year: the Bohemian Rhapsody soundtrack (what an amazing movie!) and mad season by Matchbox20 (still crazy about this one after all these years!)

Favorites: Beauty
I have bonded with Formula 10.0.6's Picture Perfect Day. I don't go a day with it. It smells amazing AND has SPF15! I use it every day. And speaking of every day, I'm not sure I could survive without dry shampoo - Batiste Cherry Dry Shampoo to be exact. The scent isn't as a harsh on my sinuses as other types. It's the best! I recently stumbled upon Azure Glam Unicorn Holographic Illuminating Glitter Peel-Off Mask - and WOW. It really is packed with glitter and holographic! One word of caution, tho - don't let it dry too much, or it can get really stuck! haha

Favorites: Games
We are a board game family. Well, my husband kind of dragged me and our son kicking and screaming into being a board game family. We used to have a family we played a lot of games with, but they moved and found new friends to play with, so now we just play at our kitchen table when we feel like it. These are my favorites I've played this year! Splendor, Azul and Sagrada. All 3 are strategic games, and they make you think. I like games like that!
