Inspired by a Book Mani - Closed for the Season by Mary Downing Hahn

Confessions of a Sarcastic Mom's Inspired by a Book Manis

Thursdays used to be Fail Art Thursday, but hopefully I'll have less "fail" here! I'm going to do this series (for as long as I can), with nail art inspired by books! The covers of books specifically. If you have suggestions of books for me to check out, please let me know! Even tho I'm a big reader, there are still books I've never heard of... and even after doing this series for a few years, I can still use suggestions.

Today's feature is based on the cover of Closed for the Season, a book from my son's bookshelf. I am just seriously fascinated by the colors on this cover. They are so pretty! I think I bought it for my son at a Scholastic Book Fair, and it sounds like something I would enjoy, so I'll probably end up reading it.

I used all shades from Julie G's line of nail polish from Jesse's Girl for this! Included are Black Sheep and Cabana Boy (both press samples) and Something Blue, Sweet Tooth, Tropical and Lollipop (all purchased by me). The only "tool" I used was a cosmetic sponge.

To start, I did a base of Black Sheep. Once it dried, I started adding dots of various colors, not with a dotting tool, but just using the brush. I dotted various colors on, going one nail at a time, and then I used the cosmetic sponge to dab the dots around. It gave each nail a hazy look. I used different colors on different nails to get different effects.

Nothing much to say about this photo, I just thought it looked cool haha!

The photo below on the left is the result of the dots and dabbing :) On the right is after top coat. I'm pretty pleased with the finished product! It looks really space-y haha! Especially my ring finger nail. It looks like a galaxy :)

My only regret is not getting more purple in there. Or maybe a more pronounced purple. I do have a fair amount of blurple, and honestly, I do really like how it turned out.

So what do you guys think? I am really looking forward to what I can accomplish by continuing this feature! Is there a Book you'd like to see me attempt nail art inspired by? I'll gladly take suggestions! I can even get the book checked out from the library if need be ;)
