CRAP Eyewear designs from LA aren’t actually crappy.

Well, as far as I can see they aren’t Crap. I discovered Crap Eyewear this week after spotting on Facebook that old fave of mine, Lazy Oaf are now stocking a range of the American brands shades for Summer. The brand really appeals to be because of it’s surfer, skate and 70s punk rock vibes, also their lookbook photography is totally kick ass.

It’s not often that I find a new brand that styles a photoshoot that I can completely relate to, these guys last few shoots are SO me right now. CRAP have collaborated with lots of interesting Stateside peeps on collection too which is cool, collaboration is key right now I think. One of those collabs is with female punk rockers, Cherry Glazerr a very cool looking garage rock/indie rock band who I’m now listening to on YouTube because I totally dig their style. They’re giving me a mixed vibe of Goldfrapp and Melissa Auf de Maur (she’s the red head from Hole if you don’t know already), also go them for being female musicians in an alt scene, cos doing music is HARD.

You can’t tell from this pic but these Kurt Cobain-esque big plastic shades in dreamy pastel blue also feature a super dinky white cloud print and are one of the lines being stocked in Lazy Oaf should you want to get your mitts on them in Europe or the UK. Also digging this models beachy red hair, red hair is the best.

CRAP Eyewear have a great range including lots of kitsch designs like my picks, as well as classic shapes in simple colours and some totally rad mirrored lenses. My only complaint is that one of the brand’s messages is that they want to be accessibly priced and at prices from £60 I’m wondering who spends that much on shades in the age range that they are targetting, because it’s not me.

Born in reaction to an expensive and often all-too-serious eyewear market, we create quality sunglasses that are design driven, fashion forward and accessibly priced.

Yes, they’re cheaper than Ray Ban or one of the designer brands that we’ve all lusted after, so that’s a good thing and it’s always a good choice to support a small, indie brand who is doing things differently than a big corporation if you can. At least in my opinion. I’d just personally struggle to justify that much on shades, maybe I should be less tight, maybe it’s something else. There’s so much shit on the market right now, I’d love to see more people championing these little gems that are so easy to stumble upon via the power of the internet. Tell me if you buy some, I want the cloud ones please, especially since my old faves gifted to me by Flutter and Sparkle on my birthday maybe FOUR years ago, finally met their end this week.
