Don’t Sweat It: Summertime Makeup Tips that won’t Succumb to the Heat

OK– we all know that the ideal summertime look is a fresh faced Makeup-free glow, but not everyone has the luxury of waking up looking like Alessandra Ambrosio! Read on for fool-proof (and heat-proof) tricks to prevent a makeup meltdown.

Primer. Start with a silicone based Primer, ideally with an SPF. This anchors makeup while protecting your skin from those harmful UV rays. Top with your favorite tinted moisturizer or bronzer and finish off your natural look with concealer to hide any dark circles and blemishes.

We Recommend:
NARS Light Optimizing Primer (SPF 15) $34
Physicians Formula Correcting Primer 3-in-1 $10.95

Blush. For perfectly sunkissed cheeks without the sun damage, opt for a liquid or cream stain. The creamy texture will ensure a longer lasting glow than your every-day powder blush. Dab onto the apples of your cheeks and blend with a hint of bronzer powder.

Benefit Cosmetics Benetint $29
Make Up For Ever Waterproof Acqua Cream $22

Eyeliner & Mascara. Some of us look tired or feel naked without our daily pop of eye makeup. If your liner and mascara is a must by the pool or at the beach, definitely opt for a waterproof (not water resistant, waterproof) eyeliner and mascara. The only issue here is removing this long-lasting look when it’s time for bed. My favorite trick is a squirt of Johnson’s Baby Oil on a cotton round. It removes every stitch of eye makeup without the stinging sensation of many harsh removers.

We Recommend:
SEPHORA Retractable Waterproof Eyeliner $18
Maybelline Falsies Volum’ Express Waterproof $8

Lips. One spot most of us overlook when applying sun protection is our lips! Nothing is worse than dry and cracked sunburned lips, but winter is over and your thick, goopy chap stick is stowed away for the season.  Here is where we have choices- we can opt for a natural and clear moisturizing stick with an SPF, or go a little bolder with a tinted balm containing, yes you guessed it– SPF! (Can’t stress that enough!!). Avoid glosses that can melt and get sticky. One last tip: Apply liberally!

We Recommend:
Maybelline BABY Lips Moisturizing Lip Balm SPF 20 $3.59
Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm SPF 20 in “healthy blush” $8.99
