I know, I know, I KNOW. Last Fall I said that I wasn’t *quite* ready for the Western boot trend. But they’ve grown on me (as I predicted they would) and ALSO, to further my defense, there’s kiiiind of a big difference between cowboy boots and western booties.

Don’t get me wrong: cowboy boots rock. Lex’s recent article about her long-standing love affair totally sold me. However. I’ve been looking for a Springtime boot, one that I can perhaps wear into summer, so I wanted the boot to look and feel a little lighter than the traditional cowboy boot.

The biggest plus that western boots have over cowboy boots is that they can easily be worn with mom Jeans. Or…if you hate mom jeans…they’ll also work with boyfriend jeans or girlfriend jeans or straight legs or cropped flares — or whatever denim iteration of NOT SKINNY you are currently rocking.

These Mother Denim tomcat jeans are my mom jeans of choice right now. High rise, super soft, and the length is just right. I’m finding that I like a slight turn-up at the cuff, but that’s likely because I’m short. Western boots slide nicely underneath, AND they’re hitting that sweet spot of: walkable heel yet juuuust enough height to make the silhouette cool.
