Oh, yes. The annual School program at the kid’s school. Such a fun time…and that may sound sarcastic of me, but I actually do look forward to them. It’s fun being able to see my kid out in the world, doing stuff. Adorable! Also, let’s all be honest here. These performances can be ridiculously funny.
I’m just assuming you’ve all been to at least one, so you know what I’m talking about. There’s always that one kid who sees the world as a stage, who sings at the top of their lungs and does. not. give. an. f. Then there’s the catatonic child, not at all sure what the heck is going on…so they just stand there. Let’s not forget the waver, either. They aren’t shy, but they sure as heck aren’t participating…just waving wildly and loudly whispering, “hi! hiiii. HI!!!” to whomever they recognize in the audience. Top it all off with the crier. You cannot have a school program without someone crying.
So, I’ve been to a few over the years…and I think I’ve got the outfit formula on lock. I don’t like to get toooo dressed up for a school event, so I’ve found that if I stick with my favorite everyday jeans…I can just add in a dressy wrap top & pair of pretty flats (and maybe a sparkly earring, too).
I am then done & dusted, my friends…off to experience the pure *magic* that is a school program!
What To Wear To Your Kid’s School Holiday Program
top: Wrap Sweater (TTS, wearing Small) – soft and so flattering. In order to not look washed out, I like to add in a lip color (below) and another pop of color in the outfit (shoes). I styled this one a bit differently than it is on the model…I just wrapped it around a bit more and then tied it.
earrings: SUGARFIX Golden Beaded Hoop Earrings – I’ve been loving the affordable Baublebar line at Target…and these hoops are fun and sparkly.
jeans: Levi’s 501 Skinny Jeans (26/32, Can’t Touch This) – currently, these are my favorite pair of jeans I own. They are a stiff jean, which I love…but they do loosen up a bit with wear. If you can’t find your size, Shopbop has them fully stocked.
bag: Plaid Crossbody Bag – this is the type of bag I wouldn’t spend a lot of money on, considering it’s very much so a seasonal trend, so when I saw this one I was all about it. It’s a great handbag to grab n’ go…and has a bit of a dressier look to it.
shoes: Eileen Fisher Hutton Ankle Strap Shoe (TTS, wearing 9.5) – popular, apparently. I also found these J.Crew Poppy Ballet Flats…and they are very pretty. Really, I’d do any of these pretty strapped flats with this outfit.
lip: Urban Decay Vice Lipstick (matte, Backtalk) – the only lip color I wear…and I wear it almost every day. It’s that good.
