New Year’s Resolutions for Your Spiritual Growth

Going to the gym (with the commitment of losing a few pounds, of course), learning a new skill (playing the guitar is among the more popular options), or cutting back on some habits like drinking are some of the most common New Year’s Resolutions we hear every year. We stick with some of them through the entire year while some of them die after just a few weeks of trying. But what if, instead of proposing the same resolutions every year, we focus on coming up with ideas to improve our holistic approach to life?

As a bohemian lifestyle supporter, I enjoy being really connected with my inner self and my spirituality in general. This means paying attention to my body, my Health, and mind as a whole.

Have you ever stopped to think about how you’re helping your mind to be strong every day? Have you ever considered the fact that your mental health is connected to how you perform in different aspects of your life? If not, maybe 2018 is the perfect opportunity to make your wellness part of your New Year’s Resolutions. How? It’s easier than you think!

-

Take it very seriously.   When people mention anything related to wellness, sometimes these comments are dismissed with the excuse of not being ‘important’ enough. Mental and spiritual health are extremely crucial to the rest of our health, and understanding that is the first step to take these transformations very seriously. Make time for your day (no matter how busy it gets) to work on this, including a few minutes to reflect on your process every once in a while. It doesn’t have to be much time, but it’s important to make a commitment out of this. Shaping your spiritual health is a constant process which not only takes time but also can go back and forth as life goes on. Don’t rush into it, be patient.

Engage with real people, in the real world. We live in a world where interactions ‘one on one’ is not the most common thing, and therefore we’re starting to isolate ourselves in some circumstances. Try to spend more time this year sharing moments with real people, not just through a screen. It doesn’t have to be someone new every day, it also counts if you look for those old friends you have not talked to forever or just those who you haven’t bond enough with every day.

-Let go. One of the things that keep us from moving forward is definitely holding on to different things of the past. Moments, people, memories… you name it. The key to move on is to forgive others and even ourselves for those painful times that are gone and certainly not worthy of remembering. Only by letting go, new possibilities will open up to your future. Let 2018 be the year of new beginnings!

-Find a way to connect. The road to spirituality is not the easiest to take but certainly pays off once you’re in it. Finding an activity that helps connect with your inner self is a great idea to get to know yourself better and find peace in different moments in life. Meditation, guided breathing, and techniques like Yoga are a great way to achieve this. But instead of trying them all at the same time, try to find the one that works for you and incorporate it to your routine… your mind will feel the results in no time.
