The Cost Washing Your Face Incorrectly

The purpose of washing your face is to remove oxidized sebum, make-up, and other impurities your Skin is exposed to during the day. However, we are less informed about the side effects of how OVER-WASHING your face or WASHING IT INCORRECTLY can actually cause further skin issues.
It is common to see people who believe they have oily skin over-wash their face. This damages the corneum (outer layer of your skin) which may result in further oily skin, sensitive skin, and expanded pores etc.
What is happening here is that you are excessively washing off sebum, ceramide, and other natural moisturizing factors which your skin needs to stay healthy, smooth and supple.

You are just stripping off the protective coating of your skin exposing it to further trouble.

The Correct Way to Wash Your Face

1. Wash your hands first!

§  Do you remember the number of hands you shook, the door knobs/handles and surfaces you touched today? Who knows what unsanitary stuff your & their hands were exposed too. Wash those hands.

2. Lather up your facial wash/facial soap decently

§  Take your time and gently lather up your facial wash/facial soap decently. The more foamy the better.

3. Gently wash from your T-zone

§  Gently wash from your T-zone (including nose and around), then your cheeks – those areas where sebum accumulates more.
§  Do not scrub your facial skin with your fingers. Gently wash as if the foam/bubbles are acting like a cushion between your facial skin and fingers.
§  The basic rule is to never exceed 20 seconds washing your face.

4. Washing areas around your eyes and mouth

§  As like giving a nudge, applying a small amount of bubble/foam on those areas will be good enough.

5. Rinse about 20 times using lukewarm water

§  Thoroughly rinse your face (about 20 times) with lukewarm water.
§  This is to be sure that there are no remnants of your facial wash on your skin.
§  Again, there is no need to scrub your face.

6. Use a clean towel and dab your face dry

§  Gently dab your face with a clean towel. Let the towel do its work absorbing the water.
§  Do not rub your face with the towel.

7. Apply toner and moisturizer

§  The water in your corneum (outer layer of your skin) evaporates from your skin.
§  Try to apply toner and moisturizers within 3 minutes after washing face to keep in moist.
