How to Prevent & (quickly) Treat Mascne

Tags: mask mascne acne

Mascne. ICYMI, “mascne”, a new word added to our 2020 vocabulary, is defined as Acne caused by wearing a Mask. Nothing pretty about it, friends.

Don’t hate on me for saying this, but as a teen, I didn’t experience much acne.  A zit here and there, but that’s about it. Flash forward to a few months ago and I hit the acne jackpot. It kept getting worse and worse. Spreading like crazy. I was officially in acne panic mode.

Mascne, The Cycle

  1. First, the mask contains and increases heat & humidity on your face.
  2. Then, the mask absorbs your skin’s natural oils.
  3. Your skin reacts and wants to produce more oil.
  4. Here come the breakouts.

Strategies I tried…but didn’t work

  • No face makeup (except eye makeup) while wearing a mask and at home.
  • Removing my mask when it was safe (in my car, in the parking lot away from others, etc…) and using my DIY mask chain to easily have it handy when I need to wear it again.
  • Cleaning my mask each-and-every-time I wore it with fragrance-free/gentle detergents

Fab Fact: After 48 hours from my 1st V/O Med Spa facial the MAJORITY of the acne was CLEARED UP!

  • Signature Facial (based on my skin’s needs) from an esthetician at V/O Med Spa.
    • Cleanse, steam, exfoliation, extractions (if needed), mask, high frequency, and light facial massage.
  • Medical-grade skincare “3 Step Approach” routine using ZO® Skin Health products
    • Formulated by world-renown dermatologist Dr. Zein Obagi
  • Additional medspa facials based on previous progress.
