🚨 Why your New Year’s Resolution Ideas Fail (according to science)

Hello, 2018! Bye-Bye-Bye, 2017. “Auld lang syne” to habits (you’re going to UPGRADE) with a fresh start of a new year.  But, according to science, your New Year’s resolution ideas will fail if you make this 1 mistake.

So, here’s the thing. You can actually make a “resolution” at ANY time during the year (wink)… but we tend to go BIG on January 1. New year, new motivation. And, not to get too personal, but how many times have your resolutions actually made it to the finish line? I mean, I get it.

Want to know WHY your resolution (not you) is failing? Science explains it.

#1 Problem Ahead…

#Science: Yes – your resolution is impressive. But, the #1 problem is that the goal might not be measurable. Your resolution can’t be a general idea or mindset. The goal itself needs to be something that you can check on with numbers.

  • Vague Goals: “Losing weight” or “eathing healthy” or “exercising”… will probably fail.
    • Too general.
    • How do you determine progress each day/week/month with a general goal?
    • If you can’t determine your progress, how can you improve?
    • How can you make positive changes?
    • How will you make it work?  You probably won’t.

How to “Make It Work” with Science…

Change how you see & set your goals and resolutions. All you need to do is tweak your resolution so that you can monitor your specific progress.

  • Real Goals: You’ll find success with your resolution if you can track and measure it with REAL data.
    • For example…
      • No iPhone/Tech use 30 minutes before bedtime
        • On a chart write the last time you check your phone/laptop…then next to that time record when you go to bed.
      • Drink 64 ounce of water/day
        • Record your ounces in a journal or in THIS iDrated app.
      • Walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes/3 times a week
        • Or workout for “30 minutes a day” and get inspired with THIS Move App.
      • Spend 45 minutes/2 times a week reading a book (of your choice…not connected to work)
      • Try 1 DIY from Pinterest once/month
      • Sleep in 45 extra minutes 1 day/month

Cue the Confetti: INSPIRED Resolution Ideas….

If you’re looking for something other than the “working out 30 minutes a day” resolution  – I’ve created a mix of positive ideas for a sparkly 2018!
