While having a head full of Split Ends isn’t the end of the world, it can be annoying.
When the ends of the Hair are frayed, the whole hairstyle looks dull and if you are trying to grow out your hair, split ends can be your worst enemy.
It’s tough to grow your hair long and strong when the ends are fried, jagged and all different lengths.
With a few easy and simple steps, it’s possible to get soft, smooth and healthy hair, and while it’s nearly impossible to get rid of split ends entirely, you can keep them under control with these tips.
Beat the Heat
We all know that over styling your hair can cause split ends, not to mention serious damage as well.
That doesn’t mean you need to throw away your curling iron or blow dryer, it just means trying to limit how much heat you subject your hair to.
I try to let my hair air-dry when possible, my waves actually hold better if my hair dries naturally, and I try to limit curling or straightening my hair to a few times a week.
I’ve been lucky the last few years, messy waves are in!
Hot water can also strip your hair of its moisture, so try to rinse your hair out with cool water.
Mask in Moisture
Treating your hair with a hair mask every once in a while is a great way to lock in moisture and smooth out those pesky split ends.
If you’ve never done a hair mask before, I would start with this Almond Milk Ultra Nourishing Hair Mask from Sally Beauty. It uses Coconut, Sweet Almond, Shea and Jojoba Oil along with Aloe butter and Almond milk to reverse damage, so hair looks and feels softer and healthier and it contains no Sulfates, Parabens, Mineral Oil, Artificial Colors or Petroleum.
I like to use a hair mask once a week until I see an improvement in the hair’s strength, softness and overall shine and then I use it once a month.
If you want to go the DIY route, try out this Avocado Olive Oil Hair Mask.
Shampoo and Condition Correctly
It might seem silly, but there actually is a right way to wash your hair.
You want to make sure to massage shampoo into the roots and scalp.
After you’ve shampooed, you’ll want to apply conditioner to the ends of your hair moving up to the scalp and let it sit for a few minutes.
Comb It Out
Use a wide-tooth comb to detangle your hair before and after a shower.
I love this Conair Shower Comb. It’s only $2.00 and it’s perfect for wet and dry hair.
When your hair is wet, it’s more susceptible to breakage, so be gentle when combing through the hair.
Tie It Up
Using a very tight hair elastic can easily cause breakage and lead to more split ends.
Try putting your hair up with softer hair ties like these cute ones from Goody, they are soft and stretchy ribbon hair elastics that won't pull, snag or damage hair and they come in several fun colors.
Time for a Trim
The best way to avoid split ends in the first place is to get your hair trimmed on a regular basis.
Split ends just don’t stop; they split 2 or 3 more times reducing the length of the hair. Getting a split ends trim becomes very essential.
You’ll be one step closer to saying goodbye to split ends, and your hair will look better than ever.
