The Foodie Diaries | Vegan Junk Food Bar, Amsterdam

I have to admit that I found this gem and was drawn to it purely because of its name . I spent a year of my life following a plant based Diet with no dairy and animal products, and I think I would have been able to stick longer with that lifestyle if I had a place this good in Birmingham. If you're a vegetarian, vegan or pescatarian, I'm sure the name of this restaurant calls out to you too - and it does deliver with an amazing twist on the traditional 'Bitterballen' ( Dutch dish, which is basically croquettes filled with meat and potato) with South Asian spices known as  the 'Pakistani Bitterballen', the animal style loaded fries and mahoosive onion rings.

how to get there

VJFB is an eight-minute walk from Vondelpark, so I would recommend you stop by VFGB after experiencing some culture at the dam square, walk to Vondelpark, and then stop by VJFB to refuel.

Address : Staringplein 22, 1054 VL Amsterdam, Netherlands

I couldn't find one on the website but was able to get hold of the menu via the manager online. I had the notorious SUMO burger, and I couldn't finish it. The portions are massive, and eating it as a person who mostly follows a vegetarian diet, the closest sensation I can think of is a mouthgasm. If you live in,near or are just visiting Amsterdam take the trip to VGFB especially if you follow a plant based diet. It tastes better than McDonalds and you can see that they put a lot of time and thought into their ingredients.

My friends had the Classic Shawarma Sandwich which was well loved by everyone. I'm from Dubai and being a picky eater, I like my shawarma a particular way, so I wasn't too keen on it, but it was good nonetheless.

The real winner for me was the Pakistan Bitterballen and the Loaded VJFB.

what to expect and how to prepare

I've added this section, since I always tend to overeat or undereat as I have no idea how big portions are when I try out a new restaurant. If you're not a fan of fried or Junk Food stay away from this place. The fries are loaded with heaps of caramelized onions (which I love) and marinated soya chunks. One main and a side can be shared between two people as the portion sizes are generous. If you're on a plant-based diet or follow a diet that's mostly vegetarian, and craving some good junk food do not forget to stop by VGFB on your next amsterdam trip.
