The Body Shop: Body Butters

Hola Senoritas! Welcome to our first blog post! We have a great product to share with you this week: BUTTERS! The Body Shop body Butters have been a long time favourite of ours and we’re pretty sure you’re gonna love them too! You butter..hehehe

The Body Butters are marketed as a line of natural moisturizers that will give you rich hydration, making your skin feel soft and smooth. They are known for their buttery texture and variety of delicious scents. Their products are also enriched with community trade shea butter or cocoa butter. The butters come in 3 different sizes, minis at 50 mL for $6, regular at 200 mL for $21, and jumbo at 400 mL for $34.

As mentioned before, these body butters have been a long time favourite for both of us. Funny enough, we both discovered these gems through our mothers and since then they have been a staple product in our daily skincare routines. We’ve used a variety of the butters throughout the past few years but today we’ll be reviewing the Pink Grapefruit and Coconut body butters.

The butters are incredibly moisturizing without being greasy or too heavy. There are a variety of scents to choose from, from fresh and fruity to sweet and subtle. Regardless of the butter you choose, the scents generally smell authentic and true to life. The Pink Grapefruit leaves behind a fresh, slightly sweet scent with subtle citrus notes while the Coconut leaves behind a creamy, milky coconut scent (delicious!). Because the butters leave behind a subtle scent, these are great options for people who don’t wear perfume and still want to wear a scent that isn’t overpowering. These bad boys will generally last you a long time since the butters are so rich, so a little goes a long way! And to add the cherry on top, the packaging is colour-coordinated, making it easy to spot  different body butters in your collection – shout out to all OCD homies out there!

Our only critique on the butters is based on personal preference of scents, although the formula is still spot on. Every year around the winter holidays, the Body Shop launches limited edition holiday scents, like Vanilla Chain, Frosted Berries, and Spiced Apple. While these scents are fun and festive, they often smell sweeter and more artificial than the permanent collection.

Not sure if you’re convinced to try the body butters yet? Try the mini size! The selection is limited but they’re a good way to try out the formula and scent without too much commitment.

If you are convinced, please wait for a sale! There’s always some promotion or sale where you can save money, and most of the time you can get it for half off. On top of that, whip out your membership discount! If you purchase products regularly from the Body Shop, you may want to consider looking into signing up with their membership program where you get 10% discounts on all purchases and other perks.

Pros Cons
  • Very moisturizing, not greasy
  • Subtle, non-artificial scent
  • Comes in 3 sizes
  • Good range of scents
  • Colour-coordinated packaging
  • Long-lasting, little product goes a long way
  • Holiday collections produce artificial scents that tend to be overpowering
