Anyone who knows me well or works with me on a daily basis knows that I have a great love for the Humble Skirt. In fact, right now I'm wearing my favourite, a rainbow patterned box pleated ankle-length flowing number.
What a fabulous find, one of the recent purchases Katie and I made at the Retro Star Warehouse Sale in Brunswick, Melbourne. For those of you who haven't had the joy of this sale, it is an amazing weekend pop up sale of Retro Star's vintage clothing, where you can buy jeans, jackets, shirts, skirts, dresses and more for ten dollars and under.
They source their garments mainly from USA and a lot of the pieces are over thirty years old but in excellent condition. This skirt was found stuffed on an overflowing rack but washed and ironed to absolute loveliness! That sale is seriously so fabulous, we couldn't get out the door for the temptations, and the other customers were enjoying it just as much, in their wonderful, diverse vibrancy.
So what do you know about the humble skirt? As a child, I wouldn't be seen dead in one, being a tom boy through and through. But as I got older I quite enjoyed them, though I have to admit to being an absolute novice in the area and learning slowly as I go! Katie, as a late out of the closet gender fluid/transgender woman is learning with me, so we are on a fun clothing adventure together!
In the 80s we had our little mini ruffled skirts with wide elastic belts...
In the 90s my favourite was little denim mini. In the 2000s probably anything I could pull on while raising three kids! These days, I'm more fussy and having a bit of fun with what I wear. (He he ... not really my everyday attire, but fun, yes!)
We would absolutely love to hear from you to tell us all about your favourite skirts!
