Days after Birth

After the Birth of our Baby girl we spent the three following days at a hotel in the hospital, you get your own room that looks like a normal hotel room and your husband/partner can also sleep there with you. There is a restaurant where you can eat breakfast lunch and dinner ( free for the mother and I think around 150 NOK for the father) and I am happy we could get a room there because I would have hated to stay alone in the hospital for three days.

In the room there is a phone and you can call the midwives at any time of the day and night if you need help with something. I had a great birth experience but I am not really happy about our stay at the Hotel, I had some issues with Breastfeeding at first, Victoria wouldn't latch on well and I got bleeding nipples on day one of breastfeeding, that made it very painful and also it made me upset and discouraged about continuing with breastfeeding. The midwives unfortunately, instead of helping me, they told me that we should give formula to our baby because I wasn't producing enough milk (but you are not supposed to produce milk from day one). Unfortunately I didn't know anything about breastfeeding and I trusted them! So we started giving formula to Victoria and I didn't breastfed anymore until we got back home. When we got home I started breastfeeding her again and my milk came in and we are doing amazing right now, she is already 3.8 kg and growing really well!

So if you are a new mom like me and don't know so much about breastfeeding I can tell you that if you want to make it work it will work, its not the easiest thing but you and your baby will get to know each other and learn together, dont let anyone tell you that you cannot breastfeed! If you want to do it just hold on and it will be the most amazing thing, such an amazing connection between you and your baby!
