Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash Review

I am always on the lookout for skincare that helps my Skin, so when I placed a recent Sephora order and had the chance to get a free deluxe sample of the Origins Frothy Face Wash I took it. I've never used anything from Origins before, but have read good things about them, so I was eager to see how well it worked.

Even though I am in my early 50's, my skin is primarily oily. I say primarily because for years my whole Face was oily, very oily, but since moving from Ontario to Alberta, my skin has changed to more of a combination. I still have very oily forehead, nose and chin areas, but my cheeks have dried out a little due, I think, to the drier air here in Calgary. So, I'm now thinking of myself as having combination skin rather than all-out oily.

This Origins cleanser promises to address both the oily and dry areas of the skin. Here's what the product description says.

“When it comes to faces that are both dry and oily, it takes a clever cleanser to balance the two. This gentle, frothy face wash carefully does both jobs without canceling each other out. Skin feels comfortably refreshed after cleansing—never tight, pulled, or parched. Great for all skin types, it’s enriched with aromatic bergamot, spearmint, and lavender to add pleasure to the process.”

Here is the list of ingredients: Water, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Water, Myristic Acid, Glycerin, Behenic Acid, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, Palmitic Acid, Potassium Hydroxide, Lauric Acid, Stearic Acid, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Oil *, Mentha Viridis (Spearmint) Leaf Oil*, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil*, Lavandula Hybrida Oil*, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil*, Styrax Benzoin Gum, Linalool, Peg-3 Distearate, Tourmaline, Laminaria Saccharina Extract, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Cetearyl Alcohol, Polyquaternium-7, Butylene Glycol, Disodium Edta, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone.

The deluxe sample I received was a 1 fl.oz./30 ml clear tube. The product is free of parabens, sulfates and phthalates. However, I was disappointed to learn that it is not cruelty-free as the name, look and free of the brand suggests this, well to me it does anyway.

To use the product you simply squeeze a small amount into your hand, mix with water to lather and then apply to the face. After swirling over the entire face you rinse with water and you are done. You should use this morning and evening for the best results.

I have been using this for two weeks now and have been pretty impressed with it. The first thing I have to mention is that you only need a very tiny amount. The first time I used it I probably used about three times what I needed, so only begin with a pea-size amount and you will see that will be more than enough for your whole face and neck.

It lathers really well and feels very soft on the skin. When I rinse the product off, my face feels very clean and fresh. After patting dry, my face never felt tight or dry, just very refreshed. I have never had a reaction to the product and no irritation.

As I said I've been using this for two weeks and really like this product. My oily areas are still a little oily, but not quite as much and my dry cheeks have definitely improved. I always use moisturizer after this, as I do with any cleanser (Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel) and I am pleased with the results.

A little really goes a long way. I still have over half the tube left as you need so little to get the results. If you were to buy this product it comes in two sizes 1.7 fl.oz/50 ml tube for $14 and a larger 5 fl.oz/150 ml tube for $29. I am estimating that my 1 fl.oz/30 ml tube will last me a month or slightly more based on my current usage, so the larger tube should last 5-6 months, so very good value overall.
